Pollination lesson plan
Introduction : After checking absence in the classroom Write the
heading of today’s lesson to the smartboard. Make a connection
with the previous lesson. Just in a few sentences remind them the
summary of the lesson by opening it at smartboard and reading
the findings one by one by each selected student
Show a short video of a sperm trying to find its way to the
ovule . (The first 2 minutes of The video )
https://youtu.be/qjiG8agWdhI
Ask an interesting question about pollination like “ since flowers
are reproduction organs of plants but their reproductive cells can
not move by themselves like in the animals How do you think
that plants can send their male gamettes to female gammettes ?
( 1 minute)
What do you think that who helped plants for reproduction?
“•Let them discuss these questions for with their friends . They
can use their laptops to search for it and discuss among them. ( 5
minutes. )
After the time limit we can ask a few of the students and listen to
their findings in ( 3 minutes. )
Then some of the answers could be like bees and some other
insects helps plants then talk about the question of How plants
invites insects to help them. This part is learned before in the
previous lesson bu to check How much they learned just a few
Students in the classroom randomly and evaluate their answers . (
2 minutes)
ask another question by using a time capsule method lets go the
time when there were no insects in the world as we learn from
fossiles . What do you think plants can do for reproduction
without the help of animals? Help them even before the trees
exist plant life started in mostly in places where there are lots of
water around them ( 1 minute )
Give them another 3 minutes to discuss this again with their
friends. (3 minutes)
Then get their answers from some of the groups( 2 minutes)
Then watch a video about water and wind polllination from
YouTube ( the first 3 minutes of The video)
https://youtu.be/FDRirVoXhrs
Then show them two pictures from their Textbook. When they
look at their books show it on smartboard. Make them netice
about spikes that some of the pollens have. Be sure that their
spikes help them stick to insects bodies by asking a few of them .
At this point give them a simple homework to find any pollen
from the flowers or trees from their environment and bring it to
the next lesson with them. ( 5 minutes)
For the transfer of pollens by insects show the picture again on
the Textbook on smartboard
Ask again to some of the Students what they understand from
this picture (3 minutes)
Ask them the chance of landing on a stigma of a distance plant.
As a dramatization make one of the student a plant sending
pollens by wind . Let him sit in the middle of the classroom. He
will make a paper plane to resemble the pollens or just make
some paper as a ball. He will throw the ball to the air and if it hits
one of the heads of other Students in the classroom then a lucky
pollination happens. Try this with children in the classroom they
will observe the smallness of the possibility of hitting to their
heads. So ask to the classroom How plants find a solution to this
problem. ( 5 minutes )
For the assessment part show them the 4 questions at the end of
subject in the textbook on the smart board.
They will try to find answers to these questions as a homework. (
2 minutes)
