Assortment and Listing in SAP Retail
A. Prerequisites – SAP standard VS SAP IS Retail
1. In SAP standard, you need plant view definition to process PO or movement of the article on the plant (like good
receipt, good issue). Plant data on the article master data need to be maintained.
Technical point of view:
MARC – Article / Plant
MARD – Article / Plant / Storage location
2. In SAP Retail, plant view is not sufficient. Article listing is needed.
Listing is the operation that links the article to the assortment.
What is an Assortment?
SAP definition: “An assortment is a SAP Retail object to which materials are assigned (a process known as “listing”).”
Actually, an Assortment is a group of articles assigned to a group of sites. But it is not necessary true.
Why not true? Because, each plant have his own assortment also.
The real assortment definition depends on the client organization. It can be a group of articles like “PASTRY
ARTICLE” or a group of sites like “LUXURIOUS SITE”. So we need to come back to the SAP definition: “An
assortment is a SAP Retail object to which materials are assigned (a process known as “listing”).”– the true SAP definition,
assortment is just an object to link different other objects.
Technical point of view:
MARC – Article / Plant, MARD – Article / Plant / Storage location , WSL1 – Article / Assortment , WRSZ – Site /
Assortment , WRS1 – Assortment
B. Listing
The listing operation is the creation of a link between an article and an assortment (creation of WLK1 line).
To create an assortment, use the transaction WSOA1. Trough the transaction you can assign a site to the
assortment. WSOA2 – to add a site to the assortment.
To list an article, use the transaction MM42 / Listing view. For mass listing use WSM3.
Assortment as “Site group”:
Case 1:
Let assume the Retail Company have two kinds of distribution site, small site and big site.
Let assume there are articles sold only in a big site and that all articles sold in a small site are available in a
big site too.
You need to
1)
2)
3)
4)
create two assortments, ALL_SITE and BIG_SITE via the transaction WSOA1.
Next step is to assign all sites to the assortment ALL_SITE via WSOA1 or WSOA2.
and to assign big sites to the assortment BIG_SITE via WSOA1 or WSOA2.
To assign an article to all the sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment
ALL_SITE.
5) To assign an article only to the big sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment
BIG_SITE.
Case 2:
Let assume the Retail Company have two distribution brands, Catering brand (XCatering) and Retail Food
brand (XFood).
Let assume there are articles sold only in XCatering sites, articles sold only in XFood sites and articles sold
in both.
You need to create two assortments, CATERING and FOOD via the transaction WSOA1. Next step is to assign all
XCATERING sites to the assortment CATERING via WSOA1 or WSOA2 and to assign XFOOD sites to the
assortment FOOD.
To assign an article sold only in a XCatering site (like Sandwich), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and
choose the assortment CATERING.
To assign an article sold only in a XFood site (like chips), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the
assortment FOOD.
To assign an article sold in both site brand (like soda), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the both
assortment CATERING and FOOD.
Assortment as “Article group”:
Case 3:
Let assume the Retail Company have different sites, all sites sell the same core articles, some sites sell
pastry articles, some site sell wine articles.
You need to create three assortments, CORE, PASTRY and WINE via the transaction WSOA1.
Next step is:
– To assign all sites to the assortment CORE via WSOA1 or WSOA2 (as we define, all sites sold article from the
core assortment)
– To assign sites with Pastry department to the assortment PASTRY.
– To assign sites with Wine department to the assortment WINE.
To assign a core article to all sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment CORE.
To assign a pastry article to sites with pastry department, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the
assortment PASTRY.
To assign a wine article to sites with wine department, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the
assortment WINE.

WSL11 – Listing by article selection
Assortment and listing
TCODES – WSM3 (Mass maintenance), WSP4 (Individual listing)
This component allows you to create merchandise assortments and assortment modules and assign articles to
them. Articles can be automatically assigned directly to assortments as a result of checking rules during article
maintenance or assortment maintenance functions. Alternatively, you can manually assign articles to assortment
modules and then in turn assign the modules to assortments. In both cases, the system automatically generates
listing conditions for each valid combination of article and assortment.
By assigning assortments to sites you control which assortments — and which articles — a store can purchase
or sell. A site cannot purchase or sell an article that is not contained in one of its assortment.
When you create listing conditions, you also specify a listing period. This determines the timeframe during which
sites can procure and sell the articles.
Listing conditions
The assignment of the individual articles to assortments is recorded in what are called listing conditions. These
listing conditions contain the following:
The periods of time for which an article is to be assigned to an assortment
Inclusive or exclusive assignment (that is, whether an article is to be listed or excluded from listing)
The number of the module which caused the listing conditions to be generated
Whether the listing is for a promotion listing
Whether the module is assigned to a rack jobber
Whether an article is listed as a component of a structured article
In the case of manual listing using manually created assortment modules, the system creates listing conditions
based on the assignment of the assortment module to an assortment.
In the case of automatic listing, the system uses listing rules to create listing conditions.
To create an assortment, use the transaction WSOA1. Trough the transaction you can assign a site to the
assortment. WSOA2 – to add a site to the assortment.
To list an article, use the transaction MM42 / Listing view. For mass listing use WSM3.
Assortment definition: An assortment is a collection of articles, which is valid for a period of time. This assignment
can be made either directly of via assortment modules. The articles are used altogether in assortments. Assortment
defines which articles are to be carried in which retail sites (distinguished by different periods of time).
The assortment range is determined by assigning assortment modules. Assortment module is a group of articles that
are to be managed together over a specified period as an assortment or as part of an assortment. An assortment can
consist of one or more assortment modules. Articles are assigned to assortments through assortment modules created
especially for the purpose Generally create assortment modules to group together articles that have a relatively long
life cycle or that are fairly uniform enterprise-wide or that need to be grouped together for a specific purpose (such
as a promotion). This method of assigning articles does, of course, still allow you to apply assortment rules.
Local assortments: These are designated as type A for stores and type B for distribution centres. When you create a
site (store or distribution centre), the system automatically creates a local assortment, which it then assigns to the
site. This local assortment is site-specific and cannot be assigned to any other site. Each site has exactly one local
assortment.
General assortments: General assortments can be assigned to any number of customers, with one or more
assignments for each sales area. They can also be assigned to any number of stores and distribution centres, provided
you have activated the multiple assignment flag in Customizing.
Assortment User An assortment user must be assigned to an assortment before it can use the articles in that
assortment for its various business functions. The scope of functions available is determined by the category of
assortment user. Currently, there are the following categories of assortment users:
Stores
Distribution centres
Customers
Listing Procedures: Listing procedures determine how the system checks the assignment of articles to assortments
(and thereby to the stores, customers, or distribution centres using those assortments). Listing procedures control the
result of the listing process. They allow a high level of flexibility in Assortment Management. Basic Listing
procedures: SAP delivers a number of listing procedures intended to simplify Customizing, which is otherwise rather
complicated. The Standard listing procedure that will be used in PRHPL will be:
Basic procedure: Merchandise category /assortment level (B1)
This procedure checks:
Whether the article's merchandise category is assigned to the assortment and, if so the merchandise gets listed in the
assortment.
PRHPL ASSORTMENT(planet retail project): The proposed assortment for the project will be as under.
1) Assortments will be created brand wise and on other factors.
2) All the stores which will have those brands will be listed to the assortment as assortment users.
3) For every assortment corresponding Assortment Modules will be created. For example, for National Assortment,
National Assortment Module and for regional assortment, Regional Assortment Module will be created.
4) All the articles which would be sold nationwide across all stores will be listed in the National Assortment Module
and region specific articles will be listed in the Regional Assortment Module.
5) Based on PRHPL requirements more assortments and assortment modules will be created based on other factors.
