Alliteration:we will; we would; sudden strangeness; hurt
hands; wars with; clean clothes; we were
Repetition: without rush, without engines; we will…we will
Personification: on the face of the earth, the earth can
teach us
Oxymoron- Green Wars (Green=growth and Wars =
destruction)
Anaphora - let’s not….let’s stop
Antithesis - Victory with no survivors
Metaphor- Clean clothes (clean is white (peace))
Assonance: use of vowel ‘o’ (victory with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes and walk about with their
brothers)
Enjambment : fisherman in the cold sea…look at his hurt
hands; perhaps a huge silence……..of threatening
ourselves with death.
Irony: “Green wars, wars with gas, wars with fire.”
“victories with no survivors.”
Paradox- “What I want should not be confused with total
inactivity. ”
Metaphor- "I want no truck with death”
