RQ: How does the use of slang and colloquialisms among South Jakarta people reflect their identity and
social belonging

● To explore how these slang terms are linked to group identity and social inclusion/exclusion.
● To understand how socio-economic, cultural, and digital influences shape language choices.
● To assess whether slang use differs across contexts (home, school, social media, public settings).

habit but a tool for constructing group identity, signaling belonging, and differentiating between in-groups
and out-groups.

● Thematic coding of slang categories: borrowed words, abbreviations, local culture references.
● Discourse analysis to examine how slang is used in context.
● Linguistic variation analysis by social group (school type, gender, socioeconomic status).
