Students and Social Service
Students are the makers of society. They are future leader of the nation. They are
the soldiers of social peace. They should serve without any selfish motive to build
up a society free from exploitation corruption and poverty utilizing their merit
and patriotism. Generality it is though that student are born to read to study
books to prepare themselves for examination. But being a conscious section they
cannot remain callous towards their social duties.
Ours is an undeveloped country. So the students of our country have many things
to do for the welfare of the country. They can render free service in different
spheres of our national life.
Most of the people of our country are illiterate. They have no knowledge how to
live a planned life. During vacation and leisure period they can open night schools
both in rule and city areas. And students can teach them about the basic
knowledge of health, sanitation and pollution free environment.
Female studies can teach the uneducated woman how to keep their houses neat
and clean, how to bring up children and look after their heath. They can show
them the dangers of over population and convince them adopting family planning.
Bangladesh is a land of nature calamities. During flood and cyclone student can
stand by distressed people and distribute food, medicine, pure drinking water and
clothes among the affected people. If necessary, they must beg from door to raise
funds for the helpless.
Bangladesh is agriculture country. Her prosperity depends on agriculture. But the
farmers of our country are illiterate. They have no knowledge about scientific
method of cultivation. In this case, students can teach the farmers.
Students are very much indebted to their parents and teachers. So they should
follow advice and show them due respect to them. They should not hurt them
though their misdeeds. Their blessing helps them to succeed in life.
Student must be the servants of humanity. They can feed the hungry when food is
scare. They can burn or bury the dead. When a houses is on fire, they must
suspend their study and fight fire. They must protect the honour of woman from
the culture of social devils. They can weed out jungles and fill up marshes. The
services rendered by students are not with out their educative value. The aim of
all true education is to teach a man how to live and lot others live. A student can
learn this though social service. He gains experience, courage and confidence.
Engaging themselves in social service keeps students on the right path in a critical
period of their lives. It develops love and sympathy towards the needy. Social
service makes him fit the greater world.
