‘Leaving a place in search of better job opportunities is voluntary
migration because someone chooses to search for a better economic
opportunity instead of settling for what they may have. Their safety is
not at stake, but their quality of life and well-being might be improved
by searching for better economic opportunities elsewhere.’

Research summary
Cause for migration:
People leave their countries because they want to explore
new and better job opportunities. Most of the people who
migrate for this cause are not forced and they migrate with
their own will instead of staying at the work they already
have. This could lead them to a better lifestyle but their
safety is not stake. If they find better work opportunities
after migrating, that’s good; but if they don’t, their efforts
and money might go to waste.
Consequence on migrant:
Migrants who get jobs might face exploitation. They might be
given less salary than what they deserve and might be forced
to work for more hours. The safety of their job is not
guaranteed and they face unfair working conditions.
Consequence on host country:
The host country suffers a loss of wealth in form of money
and information. The migrant workers might send the
salaries they receive from their jobs to their family in their
home country. This leaves less money in the host country. A
lot of information of the host country might also circulate. If
a migrant hears something important, he might tell people in
his home country and thus the other country might benefit
from it.
