WEEKLYPROGRESSREPORT STS11: PEOPLE AND EARTH ECOSYSTEM Submitted by: Gerard Adrieane L. Kadon Submitted to: Ms. Queezel Mae Quiroga Week 1 Day 1 November 26, 2024 Planning and Preparation for Terrarium Creation During the initial week of our terrarium project, our team concentrated on thorough planning and preparation. We began by evaluating the key elements needed for a successful terrarium, such as selecting an appropriate container and identifying plants that thrive in a contained environment. Our discussions emphasized creating a selfsustaining ecosystem where the plants, soil, and lighting could work in harmony to promote healthy growth. Additionally, we carefully considered the size and shape of the container to match both the available space and the types of plants we planned to include. To get organized, we compiled a detailed list of necessary materials and tools. This included items like the container, drainage pebbles, activated charcoal, moss, decorative stones, and plants suitable for closed environments. We also estimated the total cost of these supplies and began brainstorming ways to fund the project. Currently, we are focused on finalizing our budget and securing resources, aiming to have everything ready by next week. This week was dedicated to gaining a clear understanding of the process and ensuring we were well-prepared for the next steps. Week 1 Day 2 November 28, 2024 Gathering of the Materials and Ordering the Container In the second day of our terrarium project, the team made notable progress by securing the essential materials. Each member was assigned specific tasks, such as sourcing different plants and decorative elements for the terrarium. Some focused on gathering small plants like moss, succulents, and air plants that can thrive in the humid, enclosed environment we’re aiming to create. Meanwhile, others selected decorative accents, such as small stones, to give the terrarium a unique and personalized look. We put considerable thought into choosing plants that would coexist well and flourish in the conditions we’re designing. In addition to collecting plants and decorations, we finalized and ordered the glass container for the terrarium. After considering various options, we selected a jar that provides enough space for all components and ensures adequate airflow. We also chose one with a wide opening to make assembly and maintenance more manageable. With most materials gathered and the container on its way, the team is looking forward to beginning the terrarium assembly next week. Week 2 Day 1 December 3 2024 Continued Material Collection In Week 2, our team continued preparing for the terrarium by gathering the remaining materials. While waiting for the container to arrive, we focused on collecting additional plants and decorative elements to complete our design. We also took the time to carefully inspect the plants we’ve already acquired, ensuring they are healthy and suitable for the environment we plan to create. During this waiting period, we reviewed our checklist to confirm that all essential items, such as soil, charcoal, and pebbles, are ready. This step ensures we’ll be fully equipped to start assembling the terrarium as soon as the jar arrives. By staying organized and proactive, we aim to begin the setup process smoothly and without any unnecessary delays.
