THe first international language was latin because everything was written in latin (even
after the end after the end of the roman empire) and it was the way to communicate with
all people.
THen france because it was the language of the aristocracy.
Then it became English because of the INdustrial revolution and trade that started with the
UK. Then after the second world war the usa became the first economic.
IT spread because of its accessibility and facility to learn.
After the brexit there were doubts about english being the european international
language.
There are benefits about speaking a common international language:

There are many varieties of english

british english, american english, canadian english, australian english
this is caused by different social class, education.
BBC; invented by the aristocracy in london to distinguish themselves. It was also common
in UNiversities such as Cambridge. Only people with this accent could speak in ?
For example the queen speaks this language. iTs not common between the most recent
members of the royal family.
