b) I got wrong for Exercise 2 a lot. I will say exercise 2 is the hardest part in all the questions, I still
confused about the prescriptive and descriptive. It feels a bit hard to tell what a rule is and what
is suggestion.

Exercise 2
a) Well personally I studied English in China, and that time all out textbook use the American
accent. So, I will say my pronunciation is closer to American English. And however, I still have my
Chinese accent with me which means when I read these words I lean to American
pronunciation.
b) Well accent is not easy to change, but I do notice the word we use is different. I am having a
hard time to find myself the accurate word to represent my meaning and my local friends can
easily say it. And the difference between my parents is not big, however the difference between
me and my grandparents are huge the tone and accent and speed of speaking are all different.
Example 1 when we say word ear. They make the word pronunciation long and end with a
sound of ar but I don’t. Example 2, they do stress on vowel. Especially speak the word me.
Example 3, for word start with sh, ch, they tend to pronounce as s and c which is totally
different.
Exercise 3
a) I use “the” a lot. And since it is “a person” I will use their too, since hard to say it is male or
female.
b) Well, is hard to tell if Alex is a he or she. From the textbook I will also use the word their.
c) I will clearly say what is special, so I will say the special meal. And for the ending, I will not miss
the fries.
d) I will use there are two hundred kids, since it is not only one kid there.
e) This sentence is perfectly matching the way I say this sentence.
f) I will use where instead of that.
g) Same here, I will use where, in which feels right, but not feel totally comfortable.
h) Instead of that I will use who.
i) This sentence perfectly match the way I say this sentence.
Exercise 4
a) Make the none and adj into verb.
b) Fell standard is the rule and standardized is making a rule.
c) I will use the ized when it is formal and also when I want to make a point.
