CARIBBEAN ARTS AND POPULAR CULTURE IN THE REGION AND ITS DIASPORA ARTS AND POPULAR CULTURE: Arts and popular culture have always been instrumental in the expression of who Caribbean people are and the preservation and evolution of their culture. Arts and popular culture prove to be beneficial as they analyze the norms and values of the Caribbean and also generate a source of income for Caribbean people. Art Forms: Art forms are the representation of human creative expressions. Art can take the form of literature (poetry, prose), dance, drama, sculpture, culinary arts, music, dance, artisanal crafts, festivals. It is argued that art is only a matter of high culture; however, some believe that popular culture can also be included in the definition of art. High culture: High culture refers to works of art which can be compared with similar works internationally and are generally thought to have great artistic and aesthetic value, though they often do not have mass appeal. E.g, opera, ballet and gallery art. Popular Culture: this refers to the music, visual and performing arts, literature, festivals, cuisines , poetry and artistic and designer creations that are promoted mainly through the efforts of mass media.
