They led to increased trade between Europe and the east, cultural exchanges, and the transfer of knowledge, including advancements in science and medicine. However, the crusades also resulted in lasting tensions between different religious groups, contributed to the rise of centralized monarchies in Europe, and had profound effects on the social, economic, and political landscape of the regions involved. They had a significant effect on trade, culture, and technology. The interactions between different regions during the crusades led to the exchange of ideas and goods, which influenced art, architecture, and even food! Valued products from China and India, including as porcelain, silk, and spices, were in great demand in Europe. European traders sought to obtain these directly, bypassing expensive middlemen. China gave technologies like paper, printing, and gunpowder, while India shared religion and mathematics (such as zero).
