Purpose of the Post
As a Student Ambassador you will represent Imperial College Business School at a range of events and activities,
supporting the work of the Student Recruitment and Outreach team. You will work with prospective students, and
their parents/guardians and teachers, at events both on and off campus. This includes working with young people in
schools and colleges and the wider community to inspire an interest in Economics and/or Finance related subjects,
and widen participation in Higher Education.
The Undergraduate Student Recruitment and Outreach team in the Business School is responsible for recruiting the
next generation of economists and financiers to our BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science course. Our
initiatives aim to encourage and inspire students from a diverse range of backgrounds to consider our course,
Imperial and Higher Education more generally.
The Business School Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions aims to deliver an exceptional and seamless
candidate-focused journey across all study levels that welcomes the brightest students from around the world,
regardless of background. The team supports the applicant journey all the way from enquiry through to enrolment,
from connecting with prospective students at events to organising Imperial's Undergraduate Open Days, subject
taster webinars and Offer Holder Day.
Key duties:
You will access varied opportunities to undertake paid work. The expectation is that you will work at least one
assignment per term and commit to at least one academic year.
The principal duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Represent the Business School in a friendly and professional manner
Maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all visitors to the College / event participants
Proactively provide practical support to Recruitment and Outreach staff running events. This includes
College Open Days and similar large-scale events - e.g., helping set up, welcoming visitors, facilitating
campus tours, answering questions, giving directions and assisting with registration.
Work as part of a team with other Ambassadors and staff to ensure events run smoothly and safely
Discuss and share experience of your own education, past and present, thus acting as a positive and
enthusiastic role model for Higher Education and student life.
Participate actively in all sessions and activities, as directed by the Event / Programme manager. Assist
with, and contribute to, discussions with groups of students / parents and guardians / teachers. This is
usually face to face, but in specific circumstances may be delivered over the telephone or online.

Providing stewarding and directional services and / or conducting campus tours for visitors,
parents/guardians and prospective students at on campus student recruitment events
Presenting on ‘student life’ during Open Days and other events
Undertaking duties as directed by the Event Manager within the scope of the role

Current Imperial undergraduate student
Experience
A willingness to share your experience of applying to university

Experience working in a customer facing environment
Experience working with children or young people
Knowledge
An understanding of the role of a Student Ambassador
An understanding of the challenges young people may face when
considering, researching and applying to university
Knowledge of support services at the College
A basic understanding of, or keenness to learn, about the UCAS and UK
Student Finance systems
An understanding of, or keenness to learn, about the widening participation
agenda in relation to higher education
Skills and abilities
Excellent written and spoken English, with a friendly approachable manner
