Name: Adam, Norjamin K. Year and Section: BSN – 2C Date: January 15, 2024 CI: Prof. Imelda V. Javier My Mother’s Pregnancy Experiences Manifestations Experienced Per Trimester First Trimester: My mother had typical symptoms throughout the first trimester, including mild fatigue, nausea, and occasional dizziness. According to her doctor, these symptoms are common in the early stages of pregnancy because of hormonal changes. Second Trimester: My mother felt more energized, and her nausea decreased in the second trimester. She did, however, mention periodic leg cramps and mild back pain, which are typical because of the expanding uterus and the increasing pressure on the lower body. Third Trimester: My mother became exhausted and occasionally puked as her due date drew near. Her raised blood pressure, which reached 150/100 mmHg during a routine checkup, was one of the significant symptoms she noted. She was sent to Cotabato Regional Medical Center. Later, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) was identified as the cause. Signs and Symptoms Manifested First Trimester Symptoms: Nausea Mild fatigue Occasional dizziness Second Trimester Symptoms: Relief from nausea Increased energy levels Mild back pain Leg cramps Third Trimester Symptoms: Vomiting Fatigue Hypertension (BP: 150/100 mmHg) Analysis of Symptoms and Health Education Received First and Second Trimesters: The symptoms in these trimesters were normal. My mother was prescribed vitamins during her prenatal visit, including ferrous sulfate and folic acid, to prevent anemia and support fetal development. Her doctor also advised her to maintain a balanced diet staying hydrated, and engaging in light exercises like walking. She also claims that her health education focused on regular prenatal visits, frequent rest, and good posture during this time. Third Trimester: Hypertension at this time is abnormal and dangerous for both her and myself. She was advised to avoid stress and maintain a low-sodium diet. To control her blood pressure, the medical staff prescribed antihypertensive drugs and kept a careful eye on her health. Her blood pressure continued to rise despite these attempts. Therefore, a cesarean surgery (CS) was performed to ensure my safe birth. Consultation and Medical Management My mother and the midwife in the Barangay Health Center met frequently during her pregnancy. Her illness necessitated hospitalization at Cotabato Regional Medical Center during the third Trimester to be closely monitored. To ensure a safe delivery, the medical staff continuously monitored her and the baby's health and used medicine to control her hypertension. Manner of Delivery My mother had a Cesarean section (CS) because of her hypertension to deliver me safely. She said the procedure was straightforward and effective. After the operation, the nurses took care of her by turning her position every 2 hours to prevent pressure ulcers. To boost my nutrition and deepen our relationship, her healthcare team focused on breastfeeding and offered advice on wound care after delivery.
