Our Environment 20 Years into the Future

Our Environment 20 years into the
Future
I have always had a love of nature, as my love of nature
grew so did my knowledge of what us humans do to our
environment.
I believe what we do to our environment is unfair and
unjust. Humans greed has resulted in multiple wars for
resources, these wars have not only affected human life
Why did I chose
the environment?
but our environment and biodiversity. Humans also
contribute to the continuation of pollution in their
everyday lives.
I find it interesting learning how humans contribute to
our environment in both negative and positive ways and
although we have done a lot of damage to our
environment, they are still individuals in the world that
are dedicated to preserving our environment and the
species that live in nature.
Changes in
precipitation
In the next 20 years I predict a change in
precipitation due to a warmer average global
temperature the water cycle will speed up
because of a higher rate of evaporation, this will
lead to more precipitation meaning we may be
looking at a future with more rain.
Melting Glaciers & Ice Sheets
• As the climate warms it is predicted that the melting of glaciers,
ice sheets, other snow and ice on land, will be greater than the
amount of rainfall we receive in the winter, this will result in the
decrease of snow and ice on the planet.
Rising Sea Levels
Since 1880, sea levels have risen about 0.10 to 0.20
meters.
As melting glaciers and ice sheets add water to the
oceans.
Ocean water expends as it warms, increasing its
volume, also rising sea levels.
Marine Life
Due to the continued increase in
temperature, animals like fish are forced to
move to other ecosystem with colder
waters at higher latitudes. But
unfortunately many marine organisms like
kelp and coral that are not able to swim
elsewhere are at a higher risk.
Risks To Life On Land
As changes in climate and seasonal timing continue, the
geographic ranges of plants and animals will alter. Since
species can only survive if they are in a habitat that suits
their needs, many of these species will face the risk of
extinction if the geographic range where they can survive
shrinks.
Increase In Tiger Population
Thankfully not all hope is lost for our wildlife. The Global Tiger Forum announced
that the wild tiger population has increased to about 5574, a significant rise from the
all-time low of about 3200 in 2010.
Colombias New Protected Area
• Colombia has declared a new
national natural park in the
Manacacias Mountain range,
covering 168 476 acres, nearly four
times the size of Washington D.C
• The park is named Serrania de
Manacacias, this park will be the 61st
national protected area
• This park will aim to protect diverse
ecosystems and numerous species.
Global Biodiversity Agreement
Fortunately over 190 countries
have agreed to halt and reverse
nature loss by 2030, aiming to
conserve 30% of Earths lands and
waters, the agreement also
highlights the importance of
respecting indigenous and
traditional territories and rights.
