ENGLISH TOPIC 2 QUESTIONS TAGS AND SHORT RESPONSES QUESTION TAGS A question tag is a short question that is added to statement. It is used to ask for agreement or confirmation. Structure of Question Tags A question tag has three parts: (a) Auxiliary verb (b) Pronoun (c) Question mark Example She is my sister. - isn't she? Isn’t - auxiliary verb She - pronoun ? - Question mark RULES FOR QUESTION TAGS 1. When the statement is in positive form, the question tag must be in negative form. Example I will go to school. - won't I? 2. When the statement is in negative form, the question tag must be in positive form. Example Joseph has not yet come to school. - has he? 3. If a sentence does not have an auxiliary verb, the verb do, does or did must be used in the question tag. Examples a) I love psychology. - don't I? b) She liked Biology. - didn‟t she?
