Motivation letter for ERP Study Scholarships for Graduates of Economics and Business Administration
Dear Sir/Madam,
Since my childhood, I have been intrigued by Economics and related subjects, and hence pursued
my education in a school, lyceum both of which specialized in Economics. Currently, I am carrying out my
bachelor’s degree at Tashkent State University of Economics as a senior year student and the expected time
of my graduation is on May 25 in 2022. I do believe my educational background is appealing and sufficient
to be a brilliant applicant for the scholarship.
During the previous seven semesters at the university, I have shown a steadfast commitment to
knowledge and endeavored to acquire narrow and specific parts of Economics. Many professional
educators provided lectures on principles of economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics,
foreign trade, financial markets, and banking with which I was completely preoccupied. My efforts to
master English gave me a chance to peruse English literature: books by Gregory Mankiw, Paul Krugman,
Laurence Ball, and so forth.
Moreover, the theoretical concepts learned at university were applied in my internships. In 2020, I
worked as an assistant at a local bank, where I had firsthand experience of how a banking system works. I
worked together with a credit analyst and observed how he interacted with customers, credit card
companies, and investment companies. Later on, as a student who studies in the direction of World
Economy and International Economic Relations, I was selected as a candidate to have my internship at the
Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Republic of India. In New Delhi, I spent two weeks and worked with officials
with different rankings. Initially, I was assigned to an economic advisor and assisted him in conducting
economic research. My first task was to identify the agricultural advantages of India and how to apply the
techniques in Uzbekistan. I prepared an analytical report and potential implications therein. I believe the
knowledge I gained at the university served as a stepping stone during my work experience. Other than
academic and professional benefits, I was also subconsciously taught how to collaborate with government
officials and how to work in a team.
There are a couple of specific reasons for my drive to study in Germany. Initially, Germany
considered education one of the critical factors for the nation’s development and therefore invested more
in education. An illustration of this is that most public universities in Germany are free of charge. What is
more, I know many German Universities believe that the optimum method of teaching is combining theory
with practice, and therefore place value on applying knowledge in real work. Last but not least, it is said
that Germany is a hub of education. I am optimistic that my upcoming experience in Germany as a student
will give me unprecedentedly valuable tools of knowledge that I can apply in my future career.
Concerning potential universities that I am going to enter in Germany, I have already done
deliberate research on higher education institutions in Germany and found out that I can perfectly meet all
the requirements of these universities: the University of Bonn, the University of Heidelberg, and the
University of Freiburg.
I would love to be a part of University Bonn. The university is included in the German U15
association of major research-intensive universities. When I checked out the requirements, a feeling
sparked out of blue saying that this is exactly for me. What appealed to me was the fact that Reinhard
Selten, one of my favorite economists and Nobel Laurite, also worked at this University as a professor. The
university provides a quantitative and research-oriented study program – tailor-made for me. I would also
be able to enhance my mathematical, statistical, econometric, and analytical skills.

The subject that particularly gripped me, in comparison with others, is microeconomics in basic
module. This course will allow me to familiarize myself with the methodological framework. During the
course I can deeply learn growth theory, real business cycle theory, and financial macroeconomics. I regard
these sub-topics of economics as indispensable for someone who is craving to become an economist. I
believe the University of Bonn will be a place that I grow both academically and professionally.
As for the University of Heidelberg, the university is ideally located by the river Neckar in the
southern part of Germany. While checking out the website of the university I came across comments by
graduates of the program, and the university program will boost my critical thinking, analytical and other
skills that are indispensable for researching. I believe one of the courses - Macroeconomics and Finance –
that the university offers is what I needed. I am positive about its significance for my future career.
Last but not least, the University of Freiburg is also a perfect spot to carry out my master’s degree.
What makes the university stand out among others is that graduates may take advantage of the
comprehensive study programs and career opportunities. Programs that the university offers are bound to
enhance my analytical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge. The website of the university sounds very
prompting and promising in the sense that I will have a chance to master the most up-to-date economic
expertise and management know-how. The graduates of the university may start working in leading
positions at like the World Bank, European Union, International Monetary Fund, and so forth.
I was initially a bit concerned that my plans and expectations about studying in Germany would be
unrealistic until I was told about DAAD – the world’s largest funding organization for students and
researchers who aim to study in Germany – by DAAD lector Anton Umbach. I have a single-income family,
including my parents, two brothers, and one little brother. Despite financial troubles, my parents did their
best to subsidize our education. However, as a mature adult, I feel insecure asking for further support and
have been feeling reluctant to apply for a Master’s degree.
On condition that I was awarded a scholarship, I could utterly concentrate on my studies because,
without the scholarship, the thought of sustaining might urge me to work either part-time or full-time to
make my livelihood, as a result of which I might not perform to the fullest in educational sphere.
I have already set several objectives that I am about to fulfill during and after my master's program
in Germany. To start with, I will make every effort to learn and mix in German culture. I have already
chosen several language courses to learn the German language as soon as I visit Germany. During my
master’s program, I will closely work and study in collaboration with professors and teachers. I believe this
is the key to gaining deep knowledge of any sphere. After successful graduation, I have an intention to
embark on my career in the Uzbekistan Ministry of Economy as a researcher. I believe all the knowledge I
will have gained in Germany will come in handy to correctly identify some of the critical problems and
provide practical solutions. Last but not least, provided that I am awarded DAAD scholarship, I may assist
many students of Uzbekistan in applying for the scholarship. All in all, I am determined to apply my
experience and knowledge on behalf of people and their development. Having said that all, I am convinced
that I can be one of the most potential candidates for the DAAD scholarship
In respect of fields other than economics, I have other skills as well: language skills, sports, and
artistic skills. For me, it is very straightforward to pick a new language. I have also worked part-time as an
English teacher to keep my level up while studying at university. Recently, about 3 months ago to be
precise, I started attending a local German course and now my level is already A2. Furthermore, attending
Taekwondo sessions ensured that I could relieve my stress and keep my work-life balance. I was awarded a
black belt, a belt that masters are usually given. I truly believe a person should not be obsessed with studies
24/7, but rather spare some time on their social lives as well.
I would like to express my gratitude for considering my application. I am available for contact
anytime.
Sincerely,
Sirojiddin Rakhmatullaev
