A Motivation letter Dear Sir/Madam of the scholarship committee: I am highly honoured to be writing this letter of motivation as a sign of high appreciation and recognition of one’s true abilities. My name is Sarvarjon Fayziy, and I am applying for the ERP study scholarship of DAAD. The offered scholarship in itself is a great opportunity for every economics student or closely connected ones to pursue their lifetime goals and ambitions to be an experienced leading professional in his or her career. Despite competitive demand for the scholarship, I have decided to apply for ERP, the programme that allows me to complete what I began four years ago, more precisely to become a leading and renowned economist who could not just commence getting higher income, as compared with a bachelor degree, but also begin to benefit his fellow citizens in his country. My country, Uzbekistan, needs more and more well-educated citizens who could be part of the huge development process needed for the land and its people. This must be the top priority of every individual with deep love for his or her country. After obtaining my master’s degree in Economics, I would really like to work in the big auditing companies such as Deloitte or EY in Uzbekistan as a consultant or in the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan to gain some lifetime experience. By working for the government, I would work and research on how to effectively eliminate the black currency market which is a real pain for both the government and people. This is one of the problems in the country, and I would make the best use of the knowledge I gain by studying in Germany. There are many benefits of acquiring a master’s degree. Firstly, courses in economics will be taught in greater detail. The courses like Applied Macroeconomics and Applied Microeconomics are actually the advanced levels of Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics which are the courses that form the basic and most important part of economics. Secondly, a Master degree will provide with the adequate time needed to conduct research in the respective field of study, and definitely a bachelor’s degree would not give that time as it offers a lot of courses, and is one of the strongest reasons of why I chose to study a master’s degree. Finally, there is a high probability that I might also study for a PhD degree to become a professional economist as it would be impossible to get this doctoral degree without going through the previous level. After finishing secondary education with the highest marks in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, I applied to KIMEP University, the institution with modern Western education teaching methodology and professors from all around the world, including from USA, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, India, Bangladesh and others. The reputation and knowledge it teaches to students attracted me as it was the best university in Central Asia, the best way to prepare me for my future studies in Europe. I was awarded the Central Asian Undergraduate Scholarship (CAUS), designed for a student of Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan seeking a bachelor’s degree. During, my studies I have taken part in many social activities such as Model United Nations conferences like the one at the University of WIUT in Tashkent in 2013, and the other at the Kazakhstan National University, named after Al-Farabi in 2014 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Apart from that, I maintain leadership and networking skills. For example, I am currently the vice president and member of the Student Honours Society at the University which supports active and smart students, and award them in an appropriate way, be it during studies or in their graduations. Not every student can be a member of this student organization, and only students with GPAs above 4.00 (out of 4.33) can qualify. Currently, I maintain the GPA of 4.08 which is a good result for any student studying at the Economics faculty. Keeping a strong academic performance is a must for every student wishing to reach the top level of their career. I also have some working expertise as an intern at the ATA-STROY company, the leading construction firm in Kazakhstan. Instead of doing an internship at huge auditing firms or banks, decided to test myself in something new, like ATA-STROY which showed how the foundation of each project begins and ends, similar to the life of an individual building its destiny first by planning and then implementing life time goals and decisions. I have chosen three universities, namely the University of Freiburg, The Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, and Berlin School of Economics and Law for the diversity of their students, and the expertise the universities themselves have gained for years. In addition, Germany is the country I have been wishing to study in and known about the program of DAAD for a long time, meaning since I was 16 years old. During my studies in secondary education, I met a lot of people who won this scholarship and from that moment have been inspiring me to take part in it one day, and the moment has come which I should not miss. I really would like to study in Germany together with German fellow students and people there to see them in person by engaging in cultural exchange, and to find out more about Germany, the country that managed to revive and rebuild itself miraculously from complete destruction after the great wars to the level where the country stands now, the fourth largest economy in the world with the GDP of almost 3.4 trillion USD which is a really astonishing achievement. I also would like to study in Germany due to its extraordinary and complex education system, filled with well-educated and renowned professors. I am sure the knowledge I acquire in the country will give me more than just knowledge and experience needed to contribute to the development of my country’s economy, but also the passion and excellence, essential for any top educated person. Interestingly, I have a history that cannot be more than a coincidence and that is what actually has shaped my future, and this naturally affected my decision to apply for the programme with certainty, and become the specialist I want to be. Both of my parents graduated the same university and faculty in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the faculty of Economics with the degree of Economist and Mathematician. I learned about this recently, and this strongly motivated me to include this interesting story of my life in this letter. Therefore, I am quite sure that winning the ERP scholarship will be a milestone in my lineage of economists and academic career. I am more than hopeful and determined that DAAD will be the organization that will be recorded in my mind and heart as the builder of my academic excellence and realizing my precious lifetime aims.
