Introduction: This document outlines the comprehensive plan for excavation, shoring, dewatering, pipe laying, welding, hydrotesting & backfilling required for the installation of underground pipelines from Corridor boundary fence to . The excavation will be 130 meters in length, with depths of 2 meters, and a width of 1.5 meters. This plan is designed to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the project while adhering to all relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and project specifications. 2. Objectives: • Safely excavate the designated areas for the installation of underground pipelines, ensuring the integrity of the surrounding structures. • Implement appropriate shoring techniques to support the excavation and prevent soil collapse, ensuring the safety of workers and nearby infrastructure. • Efficiently manage groundwater levels through dewatering to facilitate safe working conditions and prevent water ingress into the excavation site. • To carry out the piping work including pipe laying, welding and pressure testing safely and in accordance with project drawings and specifications in LAR area. • Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and project specifications to minimize risks and environmental impact. • Minimize disruption to surrounding areas and utilities during the excavation and pipeline installation process. 3. Responsibilities: a. Project Manager: • Oversee the overall execution of the Job, ensuring its successful implementation. • Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and environmental standards throughout the project. • Coordinate with stakeholders and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for the pipeline installation. • Provide guidance and support to the project team to ensure efficient operation and timely completion of the project. b. Site Supervisor: • Supervise day-to-day excavation, shoring, dewatering, pipe laying, welding, hydrotesting & backfilling activities on-site, ensuring that work is carried out safely and in accordance with the approved plan. • Monitor progress and productivity of workers and equipment and address any safety or quality concerns as they arise. • Conduct regular inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring a safe working environment. c. Safety Officer: • Develop and implement site-specific safety protocols for excavation, shoring, dewatering, pipe laying, welding, hydrotesting & backfilling activities, addressing potential risks and hazards. • Conduct safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations Document Type LAR - METHOD STATEMENT FOR EXCAVATION, PIPING & CATHODIC PROTECTION ACTIVITIES and best practices and provide necessary training to workers. • Investigate any incidents or near misses, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence, ensuring the safety of all personnel involved. d. Engineering Team: • Conduct site assessments and soil investigations to determine the appropriate excavation and shoring techniques for the pipeline installation. • Design shoring systems and dewatering plans based on site conditions and project requirements, providing technical support during implementation. e. Construction Crew: • Execute excavation, shoring, dewatering, pipe laying, welding, hydrotesting & backfilling activities according to the approved plan and specifications, operating equipment safely and reporting any issues promptly. • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to ensure awareness of safety protocols and procedures, promoting a culture of safety on-site. f. Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Inspector: • Conduct regular inspections of excavation, shoring, dewatering, pipe laying, welding, hydrotesting & backfilling activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards. • Document any deviations or deficiencies in workmanship or materials, and work closely with the construction crew to address them in a timely manner. g. Environmental Specialist: • Develop and implement erosion and sediment control measures to minimize environmental impact during construction activities. • Monitor groundwater quality and implement measures to prevent contamination during dewatering operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. 4. Excavation Process: a) Preparation: • Conduct a thorough site assessment to identify existing underground utilities, soil conditions, and potential hazards, ensuring proper planning and risk mitigation. • Obtain necessary permits and approvals for excavation activities, adhering to regulatory requirements. • Clear the area of any obstructions and ensure adequate access for excavation equipment, minimizing disruptions to surrounding areas and utilities. b) Excavation Execution: • Utilize manual excavation suitable for the soil type and project requirements, ensuring safe and efficient excavation. • Implement systematic excavation methods to avoid over-excavation and maintain stability of the trench walls, with proper ventilation and lighting provided for worker safety. b) Utility Protection: • Identify and mark the location of underground utilities prior to excavation, implementing measures to protect them from damage, such as shoring or relocation if necessary. Shoring Techniques: ACTIVITIES a) Types of Shoring: • Select shoring systems based on soil type, excavation depth, and surrounding conditions, ensuring the stability of the trench walls and the safety of workers. • Common shoring techniques may include trench boxes, soldier piles and lagging, sheet piles, or hydraulic shoring, chosen based on their suitability for the project requirements • Ensure proper installation of shoring systems by trained personnel according to manufacturer guidelines, with regular inspections conducted to identify and address any issues promptly. • Monitor soil movement and shoring system performance throughout the excavation process, implementing additional shoring or reinfoement as necessary to maintain stability and safety. 6. Dewatering Disposal: - Water which will come during excavation in LAR area to be disposed in sump near Rd 218 Corridor fence as illustrated in drawings and google maps. 7. Pipe laying, Fit-up and Welding - Arrange the required safety sign boards, barricades and other safety related precautions highlighted in the risk assessment and permit prior to commencement of work. The fabricated spools are transported to the construction site by truck. Spools are lifted by crane, positioned and aligned according to the site layout and drawings. Cutting, grinding, beveling, DPT and fit-up of Pipe spools with reference to weld map and offer for fit-up inspection. - Joint welding of fit-up pipe spools. - NDT of Golden joints. - Hydrotest of Pipe spools. 8. Safety Measures: • Implement comprehensive safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with excavation, shoring, and dewatering activities, providing appropriate PPE and conducting regular safety inspections. • Establish emergency response procedures and ensure all workers are trained in their implementation, prioritizing the safety of personnel on-site. 9. Environmental Protection: • Implement erosion and sediment control measures to prevent soil runoff and minimize environmental impact, ensuring proper disposal of excavated materials and dewatering effluent in accordance with regulatory requirements. 10. Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): • Implement QA/QC procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards, conducting regular inspections and documenting all activities for future reference. 11. Communication and Coordination: • • Maintain open communication with project stakeholders, coordinating closely with other construction activities to minimize conflicts and ensure smooth project progress. • Provide regular updates on excavation, shoring, and dewatering activities to relevant parties, facilitating collaboration and addressing any concerns promptly.
