AC1.1 Individual Crime - Domestic Abuse Definition: Domestic abuse is an act of abuse targeted at a family member/partner that happens within the home or a shared space. Types of Crime: ● Assault ● Murder ● Torture ● Verbal Abuse ● Physical ● Psychological ● Financial ● Emotional ● Stalking Typical Offenders and victims: Offenders: ● Men ● boyfriends/husbands Victims: ● Women ● Children ● People with a poorer backgrounds ● Older and younger people ● People who abuse substances Level of public awareness: Even Though public awareness of domestic abuse is quite high, The public do not tend to report or even prefer to turn a blind eye. Typically the reported aspect is violent or physical abuse and the typically unreported side is less visually evident. Criminal/Deviant/Both: Domestic abuse is both criminal and deviant as it goes against the section 76 serious crime act 2015 and social norms.
