Title
“An investigation on if more money is spent at the school’s canteen
versus the campus store”

Introduction
Within a school setting it is vital to have somewhere where students can purchase their meals,
snacks and beverages. The school’s canteen and the campus store serve as essential components
of student life. The school’s canteen sells mostly foods such as puri & curry, chicken and chips
while the campus store sells mostly beverages such as fruit juice, water among other things. Both
establishments make a student’s life much more enjoyable, catering to the different needs of their
bodies. As a result, students have grown curious about how much money is spent at the school’s
campus store versus the canteen. Hence, the researchers decided to conduct a survey by means
of a questionnaire among the pupils of St. Roses High School to derive the central focus of our
4
investigation which is to analyze and compare the amount of money spent at the school’s canteen
versus campus store, shedding light on financial patterns within our school community.
Thus, the objective of this study is:
*To evaluate the popularity of items bought at the school’s canteen versus the campus store.
*To find out how often students purchase from the school’s canteen versus the canteen
*To find out if students spend more money at the school’s canteen versus the campus store.
Method of data collection
The researchers will conduct this study by means of a survey. The questionnaires will be used to
collect data. This method of collecting data was used because it’s a fast, efficient, and
inexpensive means of gathering information.
A total of 60 questionnaires will be distributed among students at St. Roses High School ranging
from grades 7-12 on the 15th of February,2024. The questionnaires will be collected within a 4days span. The data collected will be transferred to a soft copy and stored on a flash drive and
further uploaded to Google drive for safe keeping and analysis.

Data Analysis
Figure 1:
Based on the information provided in table 1 it is shown that students preferred to purchase from
the school’s canteen, they purchased more frequently from the canteen than the campus store.
From the four options that were given it showed that more than half of the students surveyed
purchase daily, 2-4 times per week or at least once a week.
Figure2:
This figure contained the results from the question which asked the popularity of items bought at
the school’s canteen versus the campus store by 60 students from grade 7-12. The results showed
that out of the total number of students 48 bought items from the canteen while only 12 bought
from the school’s campus store.
Figure3:
This focuses on the question that asks about the amount of money spent at the school’s canteen
versus the campus store. The students were given four different ranges of money to choose from
that would reflect the amount of money they normally spend over a period of time. A total of
65% spent more money at the school’s canteen while 35% said they spent money at the campus
store.
12
Discussion of Findings:
Tabulated data, paired with illustrations, showed that after calculation was done, it was shown
that more money was spent at the Canteen rather than at the school campus store because more
of the canteen stuff have been sold more than the school’s campus store. Students preferred the
items that were sold at the canteen rather than the school campus store. Based on the response
from question 5&6 this is clearly shown. However, from question 8&9 which ask how much
money students normally spend during the week in the range of $100-$500, $500-$1000, $1000$15000 0r $1500-$2000 more students purchase from the school canteen than the school’s
campus store based on their response which shows 65% from the canteen and 35% from the
school’s campus store. So therefore, more money is spent at the canteen.
Conclusion:
With the utilization of analytics and interpretive skills, it was perceived that that students of St.
Roses High spend more money at the Canteen than at the School’s Campus Store. This would be
due to the fact that they prefer or like the stuff that is been sold at the canteen and they find it
more fulfilling.
