YOUR GUIDE FOR SURVIVING RESEARCH
PROJECT BY CLAIRE SLADE
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! I know it is hard not to do and we are all guilty of it but
seriously in year 12 especially you can’t do it people, it’ll ruin ya.
USE YOUR TEACHER! It’s so scary talking to them but they want the best for you and
will help you so much and give you direction so do it all the time okay.
USE YOUR LESSON TIME!!!!! The more you work at school the less you’ll need to do
at home woohoo! That said, still do work at home or you will never get anything
done.
USE YOUR HOLIDAY TIME!!!! Oh my god I can not emphasise enough
how important this one is, I know it sounds really boring and it is really boring but
you will be pulling all nighters for weeks for work you could have done during the
holidays if you don’t use your time correctly.
CHOOSE A TOPIC THAT INTERESTS YOU! You’re going to get bored anyway so may
as well pick a topic that will interest you at the start.
MAKE SURE YOU PICK A TOPIC THAT YOU CAN GET LOTS OF RESEARCH FROM!
Don’t pick anything that will limit your sources, you want to be able to use a range of
research processes to get a good grade for example…
-
Websites
Blogs
Books
Newspapers
Interviews
Emails
YouTube
Scholarly articles
Surveys
Online journals
Pamphlets
Radio or TV segments
PLAN AND MANAGE YOUR TIME! I didn’t do a timeline and wish I did, make sure
you plan your time so that you will get everything finished by the deadlines and it
won’t completely stuff up your sleeping pattern when you have to stay up late
finishing your outcome…
USE YOUR STRENGTHS! If you like talking to people, pick a topic where you can do
lots of interviews! If you don’t like talking to people, choose a topic where you don’t
have to interview people. Simple
BRING HEADPHONES EVERY LESSON! Mainly so you don’t get distracted by the
idiots around you but also because music not only makes the lessons so much more
bearable but helps you stay focused. Even if you don’t listen to anything the teacher
is more likely to avoid you if you look busy, haha!
IT’S OKAY/GOOD TO REFINE YOUR TOPIC! SACE loves that stuff so if your question
changes along the way a few times don’t stress, you can write about it in the topic
refinement section of your folio and get a good mark.
DON’T CONFORM TO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING JUST DO YOUR B******
WORK! It’s so easy to slack off in and out of school for RP just because your friends
are doing it. Get your head down and get it done kiddos!
DON’T STRESS TOO MUCH! I know it’s hard not to stress but if you really need a cry,
go and do it in your car or on the oval or at night in the shower listening to Adele so
you don’t distract everyone else, sob quietly please.
USE THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU FOR SUPPORT! Work together and ask each other
questions when you’re stuck. If you’re lucky someone will know what you’re
supposed to be doing. My go-to was Steph Green. Absolute legend. Also get your
parents or siblings or smart people in your life to read through your stuff and give
you feedback.
YOU WILL BE FINE, TRUST ME! FOLLOW MY GUIDELINES
AND FINISH THE PROJECT SO WE CAN HURRY UP AND
GRADUATE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Good luck friends! xxxxx
