1. Define the problem (what was the problem?) - Billy - In Dhaka, Bangladesh, overpopulation leads to high levels of fecal/faeces contamination in the water supply. Without modern water treatment facilities, this contamination causes serious health problems for residents. 2. Identify constraints and criteria (what where the challenges?) – Billy - Too much faeces contamination that has lot of germs. This can cause major health problem. - Lack of water treatment facilities because Dhaka cannot afford expensive water treatment. 3. Brainstorm multiple solutions (For how long they worked on their design?) - Flynn Several ways that can be used as water treatment are using filter, boil the water, using uv light and chlorine. Time needed: They need like a few years to test all prototypes. 4. Select the most promising solution (What was the prototype they selected?) - Flynn The prototype they choose is chlorine. This extremely effective at killing germs and it's very low cost to purchase. 5. Prototype the solution (where did they test their prototype?) – Chrys Prototype was build in Stanford University in the US. They build venturi system with chlorine reservoir at the top that hold all the disinfectants. This device cleans water by mixing in chlorine. As water flows through a tube, it pulls in chlorine that kills germs, making the water safe to drink. 6. Test and evaluate the prototype (how did they know if the prototype was effective?) - Chrys To know if the prototype is effective, they test it by checking if the water is free of harmful germs and if the pink color indicates proper chlorine levels. 7. Iterate to improve the prototype (How did they produce the prototype? How can it be made cheaper?) - Naysa They made the prototype by creating a simple device that attaches on existing water pumps. It’s cheap because it uses common materials and is easy to build. 8. Communicate the solution (How can people know about this project?) - Naysa - by community meetings with locals - advertise it using social media or on tv - put on the billboard the streets
