The power of spoken word God teaches us to believe His Word in our hearts, to speak His Word with our mouths, do His Word in our lives, and we will experience His Word and all that He has promised in His Word.Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble." Kind and sweet words are always music to the ears of the listeners. In giving His commandment (His Word) to His people through Moses, God taught them not to speak as though God and His Word were too mysterious or too far away. Don’t speak hopelessly. Instead, the Word is very near you. The Word is in your mouth and in your heart. Our words have the power to destroy and the power to build up (Proverbs 12:6). The writer of Proverbs tells us, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). Are we using words to build up people or destroy them? Are they being filled with hate or love, bitterness or blessing, complaining or compliments, lust or love, victory or defeat? Words are tools that can make life better, but any tool can be misused.Words are so important that we are going to give an account of what we say when we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:36–37). Words are so important that we are going to give an account of what we say when we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:36–37). The apostle Paul wrote, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29). The Greek word “unwholesome” means “rotten” and originally referred to rotten fruit and vegetables. our speech is to be characterized by “only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (cf. Colossians 3:16; 4:6). Jesus reminds us that the words we speak are actually the overflow of our hearts (Matthew 12:34–35). When one becomes a Christian, there is an expectancy that a change of speech follows because living for Christ makes a difference in one’s choice of words. The sinner’s mouth is “full of cursing and bitterness” (Romans 3:14); but when we turn our lives over to Christ, we gladly confess that “Jesus is Lord” (Romans 10:9–10). The condemned sinner’s mouth is silenced before the throne of God (Romans 3:19), but the believer’s mouth is opened to praise and glorify God (Romans 15:6). Christians are those whose hearts have been changed by the power of God, a change reflected in our words. Remember, before we were saved, we were spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1–3). Paul describes those who are dead in sin: “Their throats are open graves” (Romans 3:13). Our words are full of blessing when the heart is full of blessing. So, if we fill our hearts with the love of Christ, only truth and purity can come out of our mouths. Peter tells us, “In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). Let the power of our words be used of God to manifest the power of our faith. Be prepared to give the reason for why we love the Lord—at any time, to anyone. Our words should demonstrate the power of God’s grace and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. May God enable us to use our words as an instrument of His love and saving grace. Isaiah 55:10-11 “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Every word that comes from God’s mouth has power and authority. In the same way, when we make a declaration or a confession, it is an expression of our faith. The Lord, through the prophet Isaiah, uses the example of rain. He said in the same way that it falls from the sky and waters the ground, so that seeds yield fruit for the one who sowed them and bread to the eater, so is the Word that comes from the mouth of God. It will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish everything He wants it to and will achieve the purpose for which He sent it. The Word of God is a messenger that cannot return until it has fulfilled His mission. When you make a confession, it becomes a decree. You can confess your dreams. All you have to do is say what you believe and desire. As you confess it, you are activating the spiritual realm. In the same way, if someone speaks a negative word, that word activates the demonic spiritual realm. This allows the demonic powers to follow you, so that everything you are saying comes to pass. On the other hand, if you declare the promises of God, you activate the angelic realm that will come to your aide so that you can reach everything you desire in your heart. Solomon said, “…you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth” (Proverbs 6:2). The sort of declarations you make will be reflected in your life, whether it is a positive word or a negative word. Decide to speak words that build you up and strengthen your faith in God. Our words are both an expression of our faith but also an expression of our will. The spirit of faith is that we believe the Word of God and express that belief through our words. Second Corinthians 4:13 says, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.”Words act as agents of limitation in the unseen realm. In the spirit, spoken words never die until we kill them. We need to fight the words that fight us. There is a warfare we have so often ignored, but it is a very powerful warfare because it is fought in the unseen realm. A. WORDS GO OUT AND WORDS CAN RETURN BUT DO NOT DIE Luke 10:5, 6. Jesus said in Lk. 10:5, 6, “And into whatsoever house ye enter, FIRST SAY, PEACE BE TO THIS HOUSE. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, IT SHALL TURN TO YOU AGAIN.” B. NEGATIVE WORDS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF LEFT UNATTENDED. In Ezekiel 18:2 the fathers ate sour grapes and their children’s teeth were set on edge. When bitter words are spoken children hear it and pick up that bitterness C. WORDS TRAVEL BEYOND WHERE THEY ARE SPOKEN Matthew 8:5-10. The centurion who came to Jesus for his servant to be healed understood the power and authority of using words to cause those under his authority to go, come, or do something. He saw Jesus could do the same to sickness which was under His authority and from where He was cause it to leave his servant a distance away. Words release authority and cause things to come and go. Words affect things where the one who spoke them is not present. There is no distance in the spirit realm. Words need no passport, visa, or license to go abroad or cross borders and boundaries. D. WORDS DO NOT DIE EVEN THOUGH THE PEOPLE WHO SPOKE THEM DO Joshua 6:26. Words can outlive the person who spoke them. Words can carry over generations whether the words are negative or positive. Words spoken and nothing done about them still come to pass. Joshua curses anyone who builds Jericho Joshua 6:26. Words go beyond the life of those who speak them and especially with people who have authority and influence over you. E. WORDS HAVE A TIME DELAY EFFECT Mark 11:13-24. Jesus cursed the fig tree but nothing was visibly changed. The next day the disciples found it had dried up from the roots. The words Jesus spoke the day before began to work on the unseen part of the tree, the roots. F. WORDS CAN AFFECT FUTURE GENERATIONS Matthew 27:24,25. In Matthew 27:24,25 Pilate says, “I am innocent of the blood of this man,” but the people’s words curse a whole generation. They said (v.25), “His blood be on us and our children.” They put themselves and their children under a curse. The children were not present when their parents spoke those words but were still affected by them. History says they crushed children’s skulls and cut them from the womb. Once a curse (negative words) leaves its source it must hit somewhere – words do not die until we kill them. Do not be indifferent or unconcerned about words. Isaiah 54:17 says, “…tongues that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn…,” Sounds like we can and should do something about them in the spirit realm. Psalm 50:16 But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, God is rebuking the wicked for speaking His Word. On the flip side, God would be eager for His believers to speak His Word and take His covenant in their mouths! A great example of this is David running to fight Goliath. David spoke about His covenant with God, as he ran to face the giant.Speak God’s Word. Declare God’s Word. You are taking up His Covenant in your mouth. You are making a demand on His Covenant. God will always fulfill His Covenant. The power of the spoken word is that the spoken word is us declaring, invoking and taking up God’s covenant. THE SPOKEN WORD – OUR WEAPON AGAINST THE ENEMY In the New Testament, we are taught to speak God’s Word as our weapon against the enemy. Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Revelation 19:15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword,... “Take the sword of the Spirit” we have to speak God’s Word because we see the sword going out of His mouth.our lord Jesus Himself encountered satan’s temptations during His earthly life. For each temptation, the Lord Jesus quoted from the Old Testament. Now remember, these quotes from the Old Testament were general instructions given to the people. And yet, the Lord Jesus used it as a sword against the enemy, by speaking those Words of Scripture. Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written,...quoted from Deuteronomy 8:3. Matthew 4:7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again,...quoted from Deuteronomy 6:16. Matthew 4:10 Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy 6:13. The power of the spoken word is that the spoken word is our weapon against the enemy. Its time to pray.
