The protocols were so bad that private accounts were getting more reach than public accounts. Elon Musk admitted the algorithm was broken. Twitter is a developing situation with many unknowns. (There's also evidence of the character limit being extended from 280 characters to 4,000 characters.) Due to platform instability, I cannot recommend Twitter as your primary platform. Trust me: I want it to succeed as much as anyone. The removal of Revue for email lead capture and the throttling of links in your post make it challenging to grow an email list these days on Twitter. I will be updating this module when more information comes to light. Formatting Publish Threads to Grow Your Following Despite threads getting 60-80% less reach than they used to, they're still the superior way to grow your account (compared to singles). See the "Write" module for a deep dive into threads and viral hooks. Use Questions to Improve Reach As of February 2023, the algorithm is favoring comments above all else. Twitter has a bot problem, and it's harder for an account to fake comments than fake RTs or likes. So, Twitter decided to overweight comments. The backlash of overweighting comments: Now questions have become popular to drive more comments and get reach. That's why your Twitter feed looks like Quora now. But it's a losing strategy for building authority. www.imarketing.courses www.imarketing.courses My advice: Ask a question at the end of your threads: "What else would you add?" Engineer Post Virality with Shoutouts Some thread topics lend themselves to featuring other creators. If applicable, highlight other creators towards the end of your thread. The featured creators may engage, helping to drive your post's performance. Example 1 and Example 2 Caveat: Avoid threads that shout 50+ people and add no value (spammy). Distributing Get RTs, Likes & Comments Within the First Hour of Posting Network and find synergy buddies (see bonus section "How to Network Online"). RT Your Own Posts to Give Them More Juice RT your post every 4 hours in the first 12 hours (3 times) Note: This can be automated in a tool like TweetHunter Capturing Leads Add a Follow CTA at the End of Your Thread Ask readers to follow you if they've enjoyed the post. I also like including another related post on this card to allow them to dive deeper into my work. Here's an example of that: www.imarketing.courses www.imarketing.courses Follow Up with a Newsletter CTA 1-2 hours after posting, I'll typically follow up with a plug for my newsletter. More on this timing: ● ● ● ● I don't want the newsletter CTA to get in the way of post-engagement. Adding to the thread with a newsletter plug resurfaces the thread on the timeline, driving more post engagement. Twitter throttles external links. Adding the link after the initial post has traction appears to reduce the link's negative impact on the reach. Note: You can auto-program your plug in most scheduling tools. Here's an example of a Newsletter CTA: www.imarketing.courses www.imarketing.courses www.imarketing.courses www.imarketing.courses Pro Tip: Build a custom image for the link preview (configured on your website) that showcases the newsletter in a visually engaging way. Grow Your Email List with Freebie + Auto DM In TweetHunter (paid tool), you can program an auto DM if someone engages with your post. A popular strategy is to write a tweet that says to engage; if they do, you'll send them something free and valuable. Then auto DM the link to a form for them to submit their email, to then receive the freebie. I've heard of some creators getting 5K+ email signups in a day from this method.
