Could you please tell me your name, date of birth and your occupation? My name is Gregory Home and 7 days ago I had my 46 birthday. I work as a doctor in a hospital. When did the pain start? Was it suddden or did it progres slowly? It started around 8 years ago after my thigh operation. My colleagues at work were so incompetent that they failed to diagnose necrosis of my quadriceps thigh muscle in time. Because I didn't want my leg to be cut off I decided to have surgery to remove the dead tissue from the muscle, which saved my life. How long does the pain last? Since the operation I’ve felt chronic throbbing pain that is exacerbated by movement. Did the pain begin in one place and then spread to other areas? No. How often does the pain recur? It’s pretty much constant with occasional periods of relief. Does the pain interfere with your work, daily activities, sport? Because of my leg pain and the fact that I use a cane, have an altered gait pattern, characterized by a limp. How severe is the pain? Without daily intake of strong painkillers it’s almost unbearable. When does the pain occur? Usually it’s bothering me only during the day but there were periods when I couldn’t sleep. Are there any other symptoms associated with the pain? Since the operation I’ve noticed that I’ve frequent mood swings, I am also very irritable. Does anyone in your family have any pain? No. Have you recently had any of the following symphoms: rash, fever, infection, injury, operation? No As a physiotherapist I would like to asses you more closely to evaluate the causes of your chronic pain and develop an individualized pain management plan. In this plan I would focus on improving your functional abilities, mobility, and strength. I would also add Gait Training and I would like for you to talk to a psychiatrist so that someone would see if thre is anything we can do to cut down your medication.
