Jordan Ascanoa COL 103 Professor Lozauskas September 11, 2017 College Reflection I’ve always asked myself since I was a high-school freshman whether is necessary for me to attend college or just learn on my own to become a professional. Out of the two options the second one has been the most attractive to me until just a little time ago. Music technology has been my area of interest since I was little and I’ve learned a little bit about it on my own watching video tutorials and taking notes on them. However, while learning on my own, I’ve realized that that isn’t enough when we live in a society that needs you to have a title proving that you’ve had a high level of education and are capable enough to work in a professional workplace. Because of that, and besides my mom explaining to me a lot the importance of college, I’ve decided to attend college. As said previously, Music Technology has been my area of interest since little, therefore, I have chosen Music Technology as my major. I’ve chosen Music Technology for the main reason that I want to become a music producer. I’ve always wondered how sound waves are combined or modified to make catchy sounds and how those sounds combine to make a remarkable and appealing piece of track. I’m very confident that college will help me become what I want because colleges offer not only professors that are expert on their particular field but also the equipment necessary for students to get a high level of learning. I’ve chosen Passaic County Community College as my learning institution because that’s when my siblings first started in and because it has what I’m looking for in Music Technology. So far in PCCC I’ve learned how college works, how assignments have to be submitted on time and as particularly instructed, and realized that my success here fully depends on no one else other than me. I’ve chosen PCCC also because it is affordable and is competitive with other learning institutions. Some people say that PCCC is a basic college but I truly believe that any college is good as long as you put effort into your studies. At the end of the day what really matters is what you make out of college and not the other way around.
