Title of the activity: LEARNING ACTION CELL ON READING INTEGRATION IN AP/ESP

I.
BACKGROUND & RATIONALE
The Department of Education desires not just to increase the literacy level of the learners but
dreamt of having all learners to be literate. Reading has said to be a great source of knowledge at all
times and all ages. The ability to read is highly valued and very important for social and economic
advancement. In today’s world with so much more to know and to learn and also the need for a
conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, thus, the importance of reading has increased. Being
able to read is essential to succeed in the society.
Anchoring with the primary program of the department which is “Every Grader A Reader” the
Araling Panlipunan and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao Departments of Sta. Josefa National High School
will conduct its Learning Action Cell (LAC) on Reading Integration in AP/ESP Instructions. The LAC will
focus on giving opportunity for the teachers of the Araling Panlipunan and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao
Departments of Sta. Josefa National High School to deepen their knowledge and to equip them with
the skills needed to deliver Instruction with reading integration.
DepEd Order # 35 s 2016, states the policy that Learning Action Cell (LAC) as a K to 12 Basic
Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional Development Strategy for the Improvement
of Teaching and Learning. It is on this policy the LAC sessions shall be fully utilized to provide learning
opportunities for teachers to be more skilled in their profession specially in teaching reading.
II.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
This is a one (1) day activity which shall focus on equipping the Araling Panlipunan and
Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao teachers of Sta. Josefa National High School with knowledge and skills to
preparare lessons with instructions that highlight reading integration. This will ensure that the desire
of the Department to produce literate learners will be reinforced across all learning areas despite the
challenges posed by COVID-19 and the new normal. This will be led by the Araling Panlipunan
coordinator, Elaine Joy D. Morgades and the Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao Coordinator, Mary Ann P.
Daganato.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The AP/ESP coordinators through the technical committees of the AP/ESP Department shall set
the facilitation of the Learning Action Cell specifically, this event shall:
a. Hold the Learning Action Cell on Reading Integration in AP/ESP Instructions
b. Strengthen the competence of teachers teaching Araling Panlipunan/ESP to integrate reading in

Provide opportunity for teachers to reflect their teaching practices and apply their learnings from
the topics discussed
Ensure the facilitation of the activity and its involved are properly catered and monitored
