Introduction
Before solving the questions, keep in mind the following points that will
assist you while devising a solution to the problem of Caselet:
• Read the paragraph carefully and recognize the variables around
which the whole paragraph revolves and questions are asked. Note
down all the important points.
• Try to formulate relationships between the variables
pictographically using tables, symbols or Venn diagrams. Tables help
to define multivariate relationships more clearly so try using them
more often.
• Do not assume information that is not given and use logic and
reasoning to find out the hidden information that is given in
paragraph.

Q.1-5) Read the below information and answer the questions that
follow.
Eight friends in a book club - Katie, Misha, Reema, Liggy, Hima, Sakhi,
Tomar and Parel have a different favorite book each, from among Animal
Farm, Little Women, 1984, Slaughterhouse-Five, Freakonomics, Sapiens,
Vagabonding and Jane Eyre, not necessarily in the given order. Each of
them chooses a different genre to read in a certain month as part of the
book club activities from among Adventure, Humor and Thriller. There
are a minimum of two persons and a maximum of three persons who
choose each genre. The only two people who choose the Thriller genre
are Liggy and Tomar, and Vagabonding is the favorite book for one of
them. Reema’s favorite book is 1984, and she chooses the Adventure
genre. The favorite book of the person who chooses the Humor genre, is
Jane Eyre, but that person is not Misha. Both Misha and the person who

Q.11-15) Read the below information and answer the questions that
follow.
In order to complete the mandatory prerequisites for her graduation,
Neetu needs to choose a total of three electives from seven courses Corporate Valuation, Accounting, Innovation Management, Quantitative
Finance, Sustainable Development, Credit Risk Modeling and Applied
Econometrics, based on the given information.
Neetu cannot choose to study either Corporate Valuation or Accounting
alone, so if one is chosen, she must take up the other elective as well. She
can choose either Innovation Management or Quantitative Finance, but
not both. Either Innovation Management or Corporate Valuation or both
are to be included for sure.
Q.11) Which of the following sets of electives can be chosen?
a) Corporate Valuation, Innovation Management, Quantitative Finance
b) Corporate Valuation, Sustainable Development, Credit Risk Modeling
c) Accounting, Innovation Management, Applied Econometrics
d) Innovation Management, Quantitative Finance, Credit Risk Modeling
e) Innovation Management, Sustainable Development, Applied
Econometrics
Answer 11- E
Only one of Corporation Valuation and Accounting cannot be chosen,
both need to be chosen together. So the first three options are not valid.
Also, Innovation Management and Quantitative Finance cannot be
chosen together, so the fourth option is not valid. Only the last set of
electives are valid.

Q.12) If Neetu chooses Quantitative Finance, which of the following
electives must also be chosen?
a) Corporate Valuation and Accounting
b) Corporate Valuation and Applied Econometrics
c) Accounting and Innovation Management
d) Innovation Management and Sustainable Development
e) Sustainable Development and Credit Risk Modeling
Answer 12- A
Innovation Management and Quantitative Finance cannot both be
chosen, so options C and D are not possible. Option B is not possible since
Corporate Valuation and Accounting should be taken together or not at
all. Also, either Innovation Management or Corporate Valuation or both
are to be included for sure, so option E is not valid. Option A is the only
valid set.
Q.13) If Neetu chooses Sustainable Development, which of the following
electives could also be chosen?
a) Corporate Valuation and Innovation Management
b) Corporate Valuation and Credit Risk Modeling
c) Accounting and Innovation Management
d) Innovation Management and Credit Risk Modeling
e) Credit Risk Modeling and Applied Econometrics
Answer 13- D
Corporate Valuation and Accounting should be taken together or not at
all, so options A, B and C are not valid. Also, either Innovation

Management or Corporate Valuation or both are to be included for sure,
so option E is not valid.
Q.14) If both Innovation Management and Applied Econometrics are
chosen, how many of the remaining courses could possibly be the third
elective to be chosen?
a) One
b) Two
c) Three
d) Four
e) Five
Answer 14- B
If both Innovation Management and Applied Econometrics are chosen,
Quantitative Finance cannot be chosen since only one of Innovation
Management and Quantitative Finance can be chosen. Corporate
Valuation and Accounting should be taken together or not at all, so they
cannot be chosen as well. That only leaves Sustainable Development and
Credit Risk Modeling.
Q.15) If Neetu chooses Credit Risk Modeling, which of the following
electives cannot be chosen?
a) Accounting
b) Innovation Management
c) Quantitative Finance
d) Sustainable Development
e) Applied Econometrics
