In today's globalized economy, numerous companies heavily rely on global sourcing to acquire
the raw materials and products necessary for their operations. However, sourcing products from
the global market can pose a multitude of challenges and risks that companies must navigate
in order to ensure a seamless supply chain. This assignment aims to delve into the case of a
popcorn snacks company that engages in global sourcing and analyse their global supply chain
management. By conducting an interview with myEureka, we will explore the factors that
influence their decision-making process when selecting specific sourcing locations, the issues
and risks they encounter during the global sourcing process, and the strategies they employ to
mitigate these risks effectively. Additionally, we will examine the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on their global sourcing strategy and evaluate the ongoing significance of global
sourcing for myEureka. Through an in-depth analysis of this case, we will enhance our
comprehension of the intricacies and opportunities associated with global sourcing and supply
chain management.
1.1 Company’s Background
myEureka is a home-grown snack brand based in Malaysia, specializing in gourmet popcorn.
The company embarked on its mission to create the most delectable popcorn in the world in
2011, initially delivering their products to a limited number of cities in Malaysia. Operated
under the company name JACC4OUR SDN. BHD (201401012880 (1088962-P)), myEureka
Snack is headquartered at 2-21-3, No. 14, Persiaran Anggerik Vanilla, Kota Kemuning, 40460
Shah Alam, Selangor.
The startup team behind myEureka consists of a group of popcorn enthusiasts who set out to
share their love for this snack. Their journey began with the idea of creating an exceptional
snack, which they refer to as their "myEureka moment." Through their innovative approach,
they have redefined the concept of a great "Snack Time" and have successfully established a
distinctive brand personality for myEureka.
From their inception in 2011 to 2018, myEureka experienced rapid sales growth, achieving an
astounding 800% increase in sales volume and nearing a monthly production capacity of
300,000 packs. To reach a wider customer base, myEureka products are also available through
licensed distributors at major supermarket retailers such as AEON, Lotus's, 7-Eleven, Family
Mart, and others. Furthermore, myEureka has expanded its presence globally, with a growing
number of outlets established in countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan,
Indonesia, Philippines, Kuwait, and Dubai.
With over 22 classic and unique flavours inspired by both local and international tastes,
myEureka offers a diverse range of options for popcorn enthusiasts. Flavours such as Caramel
popcorn, Dark Chocolate popcorn, and Seaweed popcorn are among their popular offerings. In
addition to purchasing products in-store, myEureka customers now have the convenience of
making purchases through the company's website and third-party online shopping platforms
such as Lazada, Shopee, and Grab.
