January 16th 2023 Dear admission officer, My name is Nguyen Tuong Kim Thuy, preferred as Xandra. I am applying for the 3D animation for Games, Films, and Visual Effects as I am considering expanding my career to 3d animation, and using this to aid my current pursuit as a fashion designer. I have always wanted to make my designs “alive,” hence why I previously chose fashion because I could bring them into reality. However, as I progressed through my past study, I realized my true passion was more than just pretty clothes. It is concept development. My design concepts usually align with “avant-garde” fashion, but are low in demand. Meanwhile, 3d animation for the game and film industry is critically advancing; therefore, I want to explore my ability in this field. That will increase job opportunities while benefiting my current career since digital content is crucial in any creative industry nowadays. I graduated from a fashion design program with an Honour diploma at the Visual College of Arts and Design (VCAD), specializing in haute couture design and garment construction. My creativity with whimsical concepts and my illustration skills are my strong points. With that, I won the Best show Award on portfolio day and was invited twice to fashion events for professionally illustrating selected garments for social media marketing posts. Moreover, I have experience in a fast pace working environment since fashion design is particularly heavy on manual work and attention to detail, similar to animation. I choose Langara because this program offers a straightforward career-focus curriculum and a reasonable length for adult students. In the short term, I am determined to effectively keep up with the program and produce a quality portfolio by the end of it. Ultimately, I aim to work as a concept artist or a character modeler with horror styles production such as The Evil Within, Bloodborne, Anhillation or Silent hill, etc. That will satisfy my passion for concept development and support my fashion brand.
