This has helped many different religions to grow in the country. Missionaries: Long ago, people from Europe came to Botswana to spread Christianity. They set up schools and tried to change some old practices. Tribal Chiefs Converted: The leaders of local tribes started following Christianity. When their people saw this, they also converted to Christianity. Political Role of Missionaries: The people who came to spread Christianity also helped in politics. They helped the tribal chiefs talk to the colonial rulers. After Botswana became independent, some of these missionaries became officials in the new government. Many Religious Groups: There are many different religious groups in Botswana. This includes Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and followers of the local Badimo religion. Immigration: People from other countries have come to work in Botswana. These people often follow different religions, which has helped new religions to spread in Botswana. 2.
