KIM TRISHIA BRUL BCAED 3-B PROF ED 7 ACTIVITY A. Review for Mastery 1. Based on the lesson about Outcome-based Education (OBE) and Assessment, explain the essence of OBE and OBTL. 2. Explain the meaning of constructive alignment in the context of the instructional cycle. 3. Study the attached comic strips below and state common erroneous assessment practice/s suggested by the comics. 4. If all teachers apply OBE or OBTL, which will most likely be the assessment results – good results and happy learners or poor results and frustrated learners? Explain your answer. 5. “Content without purpose is only trivia.” Do you agree? Why or why not? Answers: 1. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) focuses on defining desired learning outcomes first, then designing instruction and assessment to achieve those outcomes. Outcome-Based teaching and learning OBTL emphasizes the alignment of educational methods with desired outcomes in order to ensure effective education. 2. Constructive alignment refers to the process of aligning intended learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment tasks to ensure that students achieve the desired learning outcomes through coherent and meaningful learning experiences. 3. First Comic Picture: First Comic Picture: The first comic suggests the common erroneous assessment practice of assuming that a student's performance on a test directly reflects the effectiveness of teaching. The girls complain, because they think that the test doesn't adequately evaluate what has been learned, which indicates a misunderstanding of the complexity of assessment and education. Second Comic Picture: In the second comic, the teacher's reaction to the low passing rate among students indicates a focus solely on pass/fail outcomes without considering the underlying reasons for student performance. It fails to take into account the importance of understanding individual student needs, teaching methods and learning environments in assessment practice. Third Comic Picture: The issue of misalignment is highlighted in the last comic, which concerns assessment items and lesson objectives. The teacher realizes that this assessment is not sufficiently measuring what was to be taught, thereby indicating a general error when assessing students' understanding of and ability to reach learning objectives. 4. If teachers apply OBE or OBTL effectively, the assessment results are likely to show positive outcomes and satisfied learners. This is because OBE and OBTL focus on clearly defined learning outcomes, relevant teaching methods, and aligned assessments, which enhance student understanding and engagement. 5. I agree with the statement. In order to facilitate learning and to achieve specific learning outcomes, content should serve a purpose. Content may be too brief and do not contribute significantly to the development of students' understanding or skills without an obvious purpose.
