For each question, circle the correct letter: A, B or C. I love orcas 13-year-old Skyler Moore talks about why she helps these special whales. When I was 10, I read about a type of whale called an orca that sometimes lives for 100 years. I never knew that whales feed their babies milk and use different languages to communicate with each other. I was upset to learn that there are fewer orcas having babies now, because fishing boats catch the fish that orcas need to live on. I decided to make some T-shirts saying ‘Save Our Orcas’ for my family and friends. Soon people started asking how to get one, so Mum and I began selling them. The money we earn from the T-shirts is helping to make oceans a safer place for orcas. Mum and I go to festivals to sell T-shirts and give out information about orcas. All the people we see there ask us loads of questions, which is useful. Sometimes we spend a long time talking to them. And when I tell people what’s happening to orcas, they want to help. When I was 12, a journalist asked to interview me for the local newspaper. Her article explained how I was trying to help orcas. Soon, I was invited to talk on national TV about why orcas are in danger and what we can do to save them. This summer, Mum and I are going to do volunteer work with a scientist who is studying orcas in the Pacific Ocean because I’m interested in learning more. I can’t wait to get some pictures of them. I’m looking forward to that more than anything. Recording the noises they make underwater will be an amazing experience too. © UCLES 2023 0057/01/A/M/23 11 30 In the first paragraph, Skyler says orcas are not able to A live for very long.
