Why is ministry conducting the
survey? To declare true
elimination a Schistosomiasis in
saint lucia.
A neglected tropical disease
caused by a parasite which lives in
fresh water
Spread by contact with contaminated
water in which certain types of snails
that carry the disease, live and lay their
eggs.
what does survey entails?
Island wide survey for school children 8-11
years of grade 3-6.
The first child will be selected randomly from
the class register.
Sample Collection
The blood sample will be obtained by finger
stick using a safety lancet device
The epidemiological data of Saint
Lucia from 2017 survey has ZERO
positive cases, most likely your
child will be tested negative.
If, tested positive - you will be
informed and your child will
be treated.
