SUBJECT: French
TOPIC: Qu’est-ce que tu as fait hier ?
OBJECTIVES: At the end of these lessons, students should be able to:
✔ Solicit a response from others regarding what they did in recent times
✔ Express in the target language some activities that they did some time in the past
✔ Use correct forms of the verb avoir when stating activities done in the past
✔ Form the past participle of regular verbs in French correctly
ACTIVITIES:
✔ The teacher will start the lesson with a crack the code activity. Students will do this
activity to find out the topic of the lesson.
✔ The teacher will then write a few sentences on the board stating some activities that
she did yesterday.
✔ The teacher will read through each and will then allow students to read on their
own. The teacher will make corrections where necessary.
✔ The teacher will then ask students to analyse the sentences written on the in order to
figure out how the ‘Passe Compse’ is formed in French.
✔ Students; in their observation, should point out that in order to form the ‘Passe
Compose’ one will need an auxiliary verb ‘avoir’ as well as a past participle.
✔ The teacher will review the present tense of the verb ‘avoir’ with students. Students
will also practise using this verb in sentences.
✔ She will then ask students to identify the main verb in each sentence. Students will
then pay attention to how the past participle of each group verb is formed.
✔ The teacher will then use guided questions to see if students remember all the
observations that they made. The teacher will then give students some notes on the
‘Passe Compose’
✔ The teacher will then underline the time indicators that were used in the sentences
placed on the board at the beginning of the class. Students will use their dictionaries
to find the meaning of each.
✔ The teacher will then give each group in the class a sentence to write in the ‘Passe
Compose’ The teacher will make corrections where necessary.
✔ Students will do other activities; such as, fill in the blanks with the correct form of
auxiliary verb or past participle, students will guess the correct verb group based on
past participles and students will also conduct in class surveys to find out what their
peers did yesterday.
✔ As a graded activity, students will provide responses to different situations in the
past.
