Kurita Dropwise Condensation Technology(FPO)
(Dropwise) is a patent-pending technology to
increase operating efficiency and conserve
energy in industrial production facilities. This
technology can be applied without the need for
any additional system equipment. Dropwise is
dosed continuously into the steam line in front of
the target device, creating a water repellent film
on the surfaces. Increasing the water repellency
greatly improves productivity and heat transfer
efficiency. At the same time, steam consumption
is reduced, leading to less fuel consumption and
decreased energy costs. Dropwise is a sustainable
technology that leads to a reduction of carbon
dioxide emissions and supports the development
of an eco-friendly society.

The steam generated from the boiler releases latent heat when condensing on the
surface of the heat exchanger and stays in a film form as condensed water. It has
been pointed out that since the 1930s that this film-like condensate has a thermal

Therefore, by reducing the thickness of the water film with Dropwise, heat transfer
resistance is decreased, and required steam quantity is decreased too. Field
results have shown steam consumption is typically reduced by five to ten percent.
Improved Productivity
As stated above, Dropwise improves heat transfer efficiency, which means
increased heat transfer. In cases where a heat exchanger is operated at 100% of
its capacity, without the Dropwise, the only other option to increase production is
to install a larger heat exchanger. However, since Dropwise increases heat transfer
efficiency of an existing heat exchanger, it is expected to generate additional
production capacity without the need to increase the size of the system.
