The Teacher will show the five guidelines in
listening.
Guidelines in Listening
1. Sit properly
2. Listen attentively
3. Raise your hand if you want to answer
or ask a question.
4. Do not talk to your seatmate.
5. Respect one another.
Very Good! I hope you will follow those
rules. Will you?
(Students will response)
You may now take your seat.
4. Checking of Attendance
Okay class, do we have any absentees today?
I’m so impressed that no one is absent today.
It seems like everyone are eager to learn.
Because of that, let us give everyone a
“Very Good Clap”
(One student will tell who’s absent for the
day)
(Students will do the very good clap)
5. Drill/ Energizer (Repetition)
Arrange the jumbled letters to form a new

4. What phenomenon involves shaking
of the ground due to plate movement?
ARTEHAQKUE
6. Review of the past lesson
The words that you have seen are very
important in topic for today but before that let
us have a review about the layers of the earth.
Here is the direction.
Label the parts of the Earth. Get your answer
inside the box and paste in on the board.
The students will label the layers of the
Earth.
II: Developmental Activities
1. Motivation (Integration)
The teacher will show some mathematical
problems using basic operations in addition,
subtraction, multiplication and division. The
students will try to answer them. Students will
guess the picture by answering the puzzle
provided on the board. After that, the students
will find the correct answer inside the box and
paste it on the board on top of the equation
that they have solved to see what is the magic
word hidden in the puzzle.
(Learners will participate actively in the
activity and they will take turns in answering
the puzzle.)
(The teacher will let the learners answer the
puzzle during their turns.)
I am glad that you were able to complete the
Puzzle. Let us give ourselves a round of
applause for a job well done.
What is our magic word today?
Earthquake and a Volcanic Eruption.
You’re right!
Earthquake and a Volcanic Eruption.
The pictures that you have seen are very
important in topic for today.
2. Presentation
You have given some meaning to the familiar
words we have in the jumbled letters we
arranged, and now you are going to know
that.
Class our topic for today is about the changes
of the earth surface as a result of earthquake
and volcanic eruptions.
(The teacher will also discuss the objectives
of the lesson)
3. Discussion
The earth appears to be a peaceful and quite
planet but there are changes that occurs
eventually that causes the movement of the
layers of the earth and one of that is
earthquake.
Let’s read together what is an earthquake.
An Earthquake is the shaking of the ground.
It happens when crustal plates move. It can be
felt as shock under your feet, or may be very
powerful to flatten an entire city
Based on what you have
read what did you understand?
Very good!
It is important to know some terms about an
earthquake.
Violent Earthquakes are triggered when two
plates slide past each other along faults. The
An Earthquake is the shaking of the ground.
It happens when crustal plates move. T
plates movement causes rocks to move as
well. These rocks breaks and when the rocks
from underground break or moved waves of
energy released and set out through the earth.
These waves triggered an earthquake.
(Convergent Plate Boundaries)
Reverse fault the hanging wall has moved
upward relative to the footwall. Reverse faults
occur where two blocks of rock are forced
together by compression.
(Divergent Plate Boundary)
Normal fault caused by the tension in the
earth’s crust pulling a rock apart from each
other. This picture shows a normal fault.
(Transform Plate Boundary)
Strike-slip fault happen when the rock on
either side of the fault plane moves
horizontally
These three types of plate boundaries cause
movements in the Earth’s crust resulting to an
earthquake.
The motion of the ground is measured by an
instrument called Seismograph.
The leading agency in the Philippines and
they are mandated to study earthquakes,
volcanoes and other related phenomena.
Two types of Earthquake.
1. Volcanic Earthquake – it is the
shaking of the grounds that happens
when there is a strong volcanic
eruptions.
2. Tectonic Earthquake- It is caused by
the movement of Earth’s crust or
crustal plate. It may occur above the
ground or beneath the ocean.
Effects of an Earthquake.
Effects of the earthquake in the
environment
1. Fissure
it is a road the road affected by the earthquake
2. Building Destruction
Who can tell me, what is in the picture
number 2?
Excellent, earthquake has the ability to
destroy our house, buildings and so on.
the house is destroyed by the earthquake!
3. Liquefaction
the road is in the state of losing its
strength due to effect of earthquake!
liquefaction it is a ground failure or loss of
strength structures!
4. Tsunami
What is in the picture?
There is a massive wave.
After shock of the earth quake class, it can
cause a tsunami or a massive wave and cause
death of animals and human being!
5. Landslide
it is caused by the earthquake that led
the rock, soil or debris down.
We are now clear class about what is
earthquake and its effects to the environment.
Do you know some volcanoes in our country?
(The teacher will ask the learners to give two
volcanoes)
I know that you know this volcano!
(The answers may vary.)
One of the famous volcanoes here in
Philippines known for its perfect cone is the
Mayon volcano in Albay.
Another change of the earth surface is
Volcanic eruption. Let us now proceed on
how does volcanic eruption occur.
Let’s read it class.
Volcano is an opening on the earth’s crust
through which hot molten rock flows out from
deep inside the earth. The movement may be
slow and steady but the movement can also be
sudden, explosive and violent.
Volcanic eruption occurs when magma is
released from a volcano.
What did you understand about
what have you read?
Good!
To further understand this class let’s look at
this picture.
Inside a volcano is a magma chamber where
molten rocks are forcefully driven by intense
heat and pressure. When we say magma
chamber it is a place where rocks melt
because of extreme heat and pressure.
The release of magma from the crater is
known as VOLCANIC ERUPTION.
Magma refers to molten rock underground,
while
Lava describes molten rock that has reached
earth’s surface.
Effects of Volcanic Eruptions
1. Volcanic Ashes
Volcanic eruption occurs when magma is
released from a volcano.
What are the volcanic ashes effects on us?
it can cause potential hazards to plants and
human and also ashes emitted by the volcano
can make the soil more fertile.
2. Lava flows
it can cause potential hazards to plants and
human and also ashes emitted by the volcano
can make the soil more fertile.
what lava flow effect base from the picture?
It may destroy plants and its paths.
3. Lahar Flow
It may destroy plants and its paths.
What is the Lahar flow effect? It can bury
houses and other structures.
Did you understand class?
4. Generalization
(The students will answer)
Since you have understood. Can you tell me
again what is our lesson all about?
Why do you think it is important to know the
changes on the earth’s surface?
Again, what are the changes on the earth’s
surface?
What is an earthquake?
It is all about changes of an earth as a result
of earthquake and volcanic eruptions.
It is important ma’am so that we could be
aware of what will happen and what will we
do if it occurs.
The changes on the earth’s surface are due to
earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
What is volcanic eruption?
Very good!
An Earthquake is the shaking of the ground.
It happens when crustal plates move.
Remember class that both earthquake and
Volcanic eruption occurs when magma is
volcanic eruptions bring changes to Earth’s
released from a volcano.
surface. These may bring different changes to
people animals, plants and properties but
these phenomena are beyond human’s control.
All we can do is to manifest preparedness
during emergencies where there are
earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Are we clear?
5. Application
You will have a group activity. I will divide
you into two groups and you have 3minutes to Yes teacher.
finish the task.
Make an emergency preparedness plan guide.
Prepare your plan in a short band paper. Use
these emergency preparedness tips/ steps in
preparing your plan.
Step 1: Know the risks (earthquake, volcanic
eruption)
Step 2: Make a plan
(Students will listen and follow the
directions)



Plan for specific risk
Neighborhood safety plan
Household plan (emergency exits,
meeting place, copies of important
documents
 Workplace plan
Step 3: Get an emergency Kit.
After that, the teacher will let the students
present their activity.
(Students will do the activity)
(Answers may vary)
