Md. Kamrul Hasan Monju Statement of Purpose It has always been my dream to pursue a Ph.D. degree from the beginning of my university life when I was not even aware of what a Ph.D. is. My elder brother sowed the seed of higher studies in me, and I cherished the desire to obtain a Ph.D. as I grew up. Consequently, now I am ambitious to pursue MEng/MRes degree leading to Ph.D. I am aspiring to research in the area of power and energy system. To be more specific, my MRes/MEng aims at the study on power electronics technology for renewable energy integration, distributed generation systems, and microgrids so that I could be involved with the problem-solving in different areas in developing countries where no electricity access. Therefore, I believe Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia would be the best institute for executing my study plan. From my childhood, I am curious about learning the things that are designed or invented by engineers. Henceforth, I passed my Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from a technical school of General Electrical Works and Diploma in Engineering (4 years) from the Electronics department under Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB). At the very ending stage of my diploma in engineering, I finished my internship under a well-reputed research organization in our country “Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission” (BAEC) for three months in 2013 which included five major projects such as (i). design and implementation of dual voltage regulated power supply for 12 volts, (ii). design and development of drop-out relay, (iii). design and construction of a step-down transformer, (iv). PCB layout and schematic diagram design by using computer software, (v). design and development of a liquid level controller where I earned plenty of knowledge during that period. I have completed my B.Sc. in engineering from a well-known university in our country Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) in 2018 from Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) with power as major. In my undergraduate study, my favorite subjects were Power System, Power System Protection, Power Plant Engineering, and Power Electronics. I have conducted my undergraduate thesis titled “renewable energy-assisted cost-aware sustainable off-grid base stations with energy cooperation” under the supervision of Prof. Abu Jahid. This dissertation investigates the techno-economic feasibility of integrated renewable energy (IRE) powered off-grid cellular base stations (BSs) taking into account the stochastic behavior of RE generation and traffic intensity remote areas in Bangladesh. Moreover, I have published this thesis work as an article by IEEE access as a co-author. Recently, I have done some research work on the area of Renewable Energy powered wireless networks and data centers and published several articles by IEEE access, Taylor & Francis, and IEEE sponsored international conferences. These conferences are also sponsored by the IEEE computer society and IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh chapter. These researches aimed to develop an energy sustainable hybrid power supply solution for base stations (BSs) and data centers (DC). The power consumption model was evaluated by studying different system parameters of BS and DC. The hybrid energy system was designed by combining several renewable (PV, Wind) and non-renewable sources (DG) with sufficient battery units. I used the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables (HOMER) software to analyze the system performance concerning optimum design architecture, energy yield analysis, cost assessment, and carbon footprints. Md. Kamrul Hasan Monju Statement of Purpose Currently, I am working for a Chinese multinational cell phone manufacturing company name is vivo [Best Tycoon (BD) Enterprise Limited] from 16th September 2019. Since in the beginning time vivo introduced its corporate office as “vivo” in Bangladesh that’s why manufacturing factory name is different “Best Tycoon (BD) Enterprise Limited” as Bangladeshi government law. I am working here as an Assistant Engineer in SMT (Surface Mount Technology) department and responsible for SMT Logistic team and SMT training team. vivo sent me at “vivo india private limited”, Delhi, India, the second-largest vivo factory for getting training for more than 2 months (23rd September to 1St December 2019). That training helped me to be experienced with SMT department and taught me how to adapt to different people and cultures belong to a different county. Furthermore, I am a former member of BUBT robotics club where got the opportunities to participate in different robotics competitions such as BUBT inter robotics competition (Robo Rush) and Dhaka University Robotics Festivals. At that time, I have worked with Arduino and many other electronic circuits and components. Also, I was the group leader in my thesis group and successfully done the final thesis presentation by securing maximum marks. I have led the Bhola polytechnic Institute rover scouts group as a senior rover-mate (SRM) during my diploma in engineering when I participated in different volunteering activities like helping various natural disasters (Flood, Cyclone) affected local people. My country is exponentially developing in the electrical power generation sector by using coalfire and atomic energy where the research on renewable energy, microgrids or electric vehicles is limited and no proper concern on the green power for saving the environment by reducing carbon die-oxide emissions. I have an ambition that after completing my graduate studies I will come back to my country and will join in academia to do more research for the improvement of this severe issue. The extensive research amenities of Macquarie University in power sectors such as laboratories, research funds, and cosmopolitan research team made me enthusiastic to approach. Having gone through the faculty directory, I mostly interested to work with Dr. Jahangir Hossain as he is working with renewable energy integration, modeling and controlling of power electronic converters and optimization of microgrids and smart grids. Finally, I know there will be hurdles while pursuing MRes/MEng, but I am confident enough to manage those by my endurance, critical thinking, fast learning skills, and experiences. I am exuberantly looking forward to having the opportunity of pursuing my MRes/MEng degree at your prestigious university so that I can continue my research in the area of Power and Energy Systems. After accomplishing my masters, I will continue my study and research to achieve a Ph.D. degree intending to contribute to the research and development of my country's power sectors.
