Mary Jane Garayan Unit Earner Dr. Genoveva Verdaguer March 11, 2017 SELF-REFLECT Reflect and answer the statement below, based on the lesson you learned in this lesson. 1) When I become a teacher, I will share my knowledge, time and effort into molding the youth instead, because I would rather choose a vocation more than a job. Some would argue that being a teacher may just be a as stressful as any profession but I am sure you all know that nothing beats the fulfillment of affecting change in a student's life. The rewards of knowing that you can be a positive influence in a child's development can never be dismissed. High intention for quality education is not an option but an obligation to all educators. Let us become a dynamic, active and versatile teacher who embraces change and encourages students to find their true passion in life. SELF-REFLECT In a proposed mastery approach to instruction, the teacher (a) presents the lesson to the whole class (b) assesses if learners attained mastery of the lesson (c) provides enrichment activities with the use of media technology (d) re-mediates the non-mastery student (e) moves on to the next lesson. 1. How is the mastery approach better than the traditional one? Mastery approach is better than the traditional one because for me mastery approach is more focus on the student's learning and development while traditional approach is focus on the subject matter. Mastery approach has a willingness to teach beyond limit. It ensures that students may not only know the lesson taught but to master the subject matter. This approach to instruction also provides enrichment activities with the use of media technology which traditional approach can't offer. By using technology with our students is one where we only use technology for activities that we can't do with a paper-andpencil. 2. The mastery approach appears time-consuming and difficult. Do you believe practice and experience can overcome these difficulties? I believe that practice and experience can overcome difficulties in mastery approach. We need to do it again and again in order to become better at it. As saying "we learned from our experiences" and I truly believed with it because one of the great suit in life is our life experiences. What we experience in the past can make us better in the present nor future. And practicing more often will make us mastered in everything thorough our perseverance, time and effort. 3. How can technology help in enrichment activities? Using technology is a wonderful way to enrich student's activities, and I believe that in an ever-growing society, it is both important and highly relevant for the students to be prepared and educated in these skills. Providing students with opportunities to create an online presence in a safe way is highly beneficial. I believe that blogs are an excellent way for students to expand the audience of their writing. I want our students to learn about technology and develop their skills. 4. Should the effective use of media be also assessed by the teacher? Why? Yes, the effective use of media should be also assessed by the teacher because media can be a component of active learning strategies such as group discussions or case studies. Teacher assessed media to enhance teaching and learning complements traditional approaches to learning. Effective instruction builds bridges between students' knowledge and the learning objectives of the course. Using media engages students, aids student retention of knowledge, motivates interest in the subject matter, and illustrates the relevance of many concepts. SELF-REFLECT Reflect on your current and past experiences on the different curricula you went through from the time you entered school up to the present. Pause for some moments and read the "I wonder if..." incomplete sentences. Based on your reflection, choose one number and write your answer on the box provided then based on your response on "I wonder if..." complete the sentence, "I think". I wonder if... 1. my teachers have reviewed the textbooks we used in High School? 2. instructional materials we are using now, will not be used in the future? 3. what I have learned now will still be relevant in the future? 4. evaluation of a curriculum will still be a task of a teacher? 5. there is really a need to evaluate the curriculum? Please write your answer in the box. 1. I wonder instructional materials we are using now, will not be used in the future? 2. I think 1. I wonder if instructional materials we are using now, will not be used in the future? 2. I think instructional materials we are using now will still be used in the future, because old instructional materials like textbooks is more accurate than in what we have read in other revised books or sites in the internet. However, minor change to the current or existing curriculum must be done, through changing an old book to entirely new one. We need a curricula and materials that are differentiated and adaptive to student needs as well as dynamic so that their content is updated.
