Laury Cheista Gashimwe GRADUATION SPEECH Dear distinguished guests, esteemed faculty, proud parents, cherished friends, and most importantly my fellow graduates, good morning. My name is Laury Cheista Gashimwe and I stand before you today, overwhelmed with gratitude, awe and honor, addressing you as the valedictorian on behalf of international students. We gather here not just as graduates but as a community, a family, as evidence of the strength of tenacity, friendship, and resilience. I am filled with joy and delight as we have gathered here to celebrate this memorable occasion. Looking back on the past four years, we have collectively navigated a journey filled with challenges, achievements, and countless memories that have shaped us into the individuals we are today. It's not just about the grades we earned or the exams we aced, but about the lessons we learned outside the textbooks, the friendships we forged, and the personal growth that became an integral part of our academic pursuits. As we step into the next chapter of our lives, let us always remember the diverse experiences that have woven us together. Our graduating class is a work of art, with every one of us adding a different color to the mosaic of our goals, aspirations, and talents. From the late-night study sessions to the shared laughter echoing through the hallways, every moment has played a pivotal role in shaping our collective identity. But let us not forget the invaluable role played by those who have guided us on this expedition; our dedicated teachers, advisors, and dear parents. We have been fortunate to encounter inspiring professors who have ignited our curiosity, challenged our assumptions, and guided us on the path of intellectual discovery. They have been our pillars of support, providing guidance, inspiration, and an unwavering belief in our potential. Their dedication has not only imparted knowledge but has instilled in us the confidence to face the uncertainties that lie ahead. I owe an infinite debt of gratitude to my parents, Mom and Dad, thank you for everything. Thank you for sacrificing so much to give me the opportunities I have had. Thank you for your consistent support and presence in my life. Thank you for teaching me the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my friends and extended family present here on the island for all of their love and support all throughout my undergraduate. You have made my University experience unforgettable and you have been there for me through the good and the bad times, and I am so grateful for your friendship. As we embark on new adventures, let us carry with us the spirit of resilience that has defined our class. Life is unpredictable, and success is often born from overcoming adversity. Let our experiences here serve as a reminder that setbacks are not roadblocks but stepping stones, progressing from one success to another, driving us towards higher levels of achievement. Class of Fall 2024, as we take our individual paths, let us do so with courage, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact. So please join me in giving a round of applause to our parents, friends, teachers and most importantly ourselves for the unwavering the support we have received during our educational journey. Let us celebrate the achievements of today. Congratulations to us all, and may the future be as bright and promising as the potential that resides within each and every one of us. Thank you.
