The gamer identity scale (GIS) Margarse, Dumangas, Gonzalo, Beniten Developers INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The gamer identity scale (GIS) is a 20-item self-report measure in which the researcher determines their gamer behavior, personality, and interest in games. This scale is relevant to professional gamers, casual gamers, or people who play games on a daily basis. The purpose of the gamer identity scale is to determine the gamer who struggles or is unaware of how to identify themselves in terms of behavior, personality, and interest in gaming. The scale consists of 20 items, including behavior, personality, and interest in gaming questions. The participant will be asked to answer the appropriate number, indicating the frequency on a four-point scale. (Scores are 1; strongly disagree to 4; strongly agree) Each statement will highlight some of their experiences in gaming. Gaming identity: they ought to identify themselves because they struggle to find a rightful identity when it comes to gaming. They also have difficulties because of the negative perspective of others outside their community, which affects their morality and their emotional state, which leads to difficulty identifying themselves as gamers. For subscale 1 (behavior), this short scale is designed to measure the behavior of the gamer that manifests or inherits in gaming. The items on this scale solely focus on the behavior of the gamer inside and outside of the games. It also helps them identify themselves based on the behavior they manifest or inherit, whether it is negative or positive. By identifying what behavior they manifest or inherit, it will personally help them to recognize if they have a problem or are just enjoying the game. Higher scores between the negative and positive behaviors will indicate they developed that kind of behavior through gaming. For subscale 2 (personality), this short scale is designed to measure the persona of a gamer. The purpose of this scale is to focus on the personality of a gamer when playing games. The item is to identify their likeness and comfortable role in the game. This will help the gamer identify which gameplay is appropriate for them and what type of gamer they are. To make them understand themselves more in terms of the gaming concept. A high indication of a score for those personalities presented in the item means they have those kinds of characteristics in gaming. For subscale 3 (interest), this short-scale design measures the interest of the gamer in games in terms of buying resources in games or peripherals used in games; it also determines the time they spend in gaming. It may also depict the gamer’s interest in gaming-related things like cosplaying, visual preference, etc., which eventually would help build their characters. High scores indicate gamers are too invested in gaming.
