David F Sturdevant GAS G-12 Concept Paper Project Livelihood for 100 households in rural areas in Marawi. A proposal made by a Non-Government Organization whose mission and vision is to help alleviate poverty among the poorest of the poor. Introduction The Asian Development Bank with its mission of eradicating extreme poverty by providing a sustainable way of living for its beneficiaries. They make this happen by helping their members and partners through giving out loans, grants, and technical assistance to promote economic and social development. Philippines as a member of Asian Development Bank has the opportunity to get funding from Asian Development Bank (ADB) as long as the goal of the projects aligns with ADB mission and vision. Philippine Statistics Authority reported that 18.1 percent of the total population is living below the poverty threshold. With that, we are submitting a project proposal whose goal is to bring sustainable income to targeted household thus alleviating poverty in general. This pilot project will benefit some one hundred qualified households. The proposed project is for the Muslims in Mindanao specifically the Maranaw in Marawi, Lanao del Sur. The province has been consistently been one of the Philippines poorest with six out of ten families living in poverty. Sixty percent (60%) of their total population considered poor according to Philippine Statistics Authority. The pilot project - Native Chicken and Goat Raising for sustainable livelihood will be awarded to One hundred qualified households in Marawi. Each household will be given Twenty thousand pesos in a form of a loan without interest. This money will be returned in three instalments within three years. The collected money will then be awarded to another household. The Twenty thousand pesos will be used to purchase native chicken and goats for them to raise. Each female goat can reproduce twice a year thus giving them a faster return of investment. The same thing with native chicken. The beneficiary can do one (goat or native chicken), or both. Each beneficiary will be monitored quarterly regarding their progress. Financial as well as technical assistance will be readily accessible. Trainings will be given to all beneficiaries on the new methods and ways on how to increase production of chicken, chicken eggs and goats. They will be educated in how to properly take care of their animals such as dealing with sickness, parasites, and proper ways of raising them. They will also be provided some medicine and basic vaccinations for their animals. The organization will support them by helping them find the right market for their product, and advertising them to companies/small businesses and Local Government Units to increase their potential sales. The organization will also be working with the government to ensure proper pricing of their product. The organization along with the Local Government Units can top up on local cooperatives and other local marketplaces for their produce. This project will be monitored quarterly in the next three years to ensure income stability to the target beneficiaries. The end goal of this project is to bring sustainable income to each household thus alleviating poverty.
