he-future/
The World Economic Forum predicts that there will be 150 million new technology jobs
over the next five years with 77% of jobs requiring digital skills. Meanwhile the pandemic has
caused many structural impacts in society which clearly needed to make work or jobs that could
adapt well with the pandemic situation and the development of technology.
The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) have analyzed the post-pandemic youth
population which shows out of every 100 young people who complete secondary education, 48
immediately access higher education, and of these, only 24 complete it. This report has shown
that many potential young generations lose their chance to access their bright future which could
contribute to the social and economic development of the country.
There are structural factors that contribute to widen the gap to get opportunities in having
a good career ahead. Firstly, the lack of education which many young people fail to accomplish
the basic competencies that are being taught at school because of education inequality
throughout the world. In addition, these young generations didn’t have enough figure to be their
role model or reference of successful people around their environment. They need to be guided
by teachers or counselors to give them advice or picture of having a good career. Secondly, the
accessibility of information and communication technology (ICT) which is very accessible to all
generations. In some cases there are parts of the world that still have low access to ICT but the
majority of people nowadays use smartphones. Although they rarely use it for advantages, they
usually consume all kinds of information and contents from the social network without filtering
it in order to access more valuable information. Lastly, the environment around the young
generations which in many cases lack support and role models that could encourage them to
make decisions on how they are going to plan their future career. The need for training or
workshops on career preparations such as how to make a good CV, how to present well in job
interviews, or how to be financially intelligent is very important to enhancing young generations'
competencies and knowledge to help connect more with the jobs of the fourth industrial
revolution.
In conclusion, it is important to prepare the young generations to help them in accessing
valuable information and planning for their career path in order to achieve their bright future and
so they could contribute in making a development for the world’s economy and society. To make
the right career decision on what kind of future the young people will face, it is based on how
much information, guidance, and training they have got from their school and environment.
