Discussion Questions for A Raisin in the Sun (1)

In Unit 3, we are looking at the play A Raisin in the Sun and
various film adaptations of the play. In many ways, the things we
discussed in Unit 1 are relevant here, such as summary, analysis,
arguing a thesis, and using concrete details. However, we are
going to be looking at these films a little differently than how you
analyzed your topic in Unit 1. In this unit, you'll be comparing,
contrasting, and analyzing a film adaptation and it's original
source material.
To do that, it's useful to understand how plays, literature, stage
performances and films are different from one another. Using the
handouts on drama and literature, compose a post comparing and
contrasting the genre characteristics of plays. How are they
similar and different from literature? How is a play used to adapt a
story for the stage or film? How are stage productions and films
similar and different?
