ASSIGNMENT 1 – SELF REFLECTIION Two topics of interest – 1. Leadership, 2. Job analysis and work design Current strength – Leadership I do not have any professional experience, but I have been a national level sports player and during my matches I had many a times taken up leadership roles and lead my team to victory. So, I have leadership qualities as a strength of mine. Current opportunity for development – Job analysis and work design By having an understanding of job analysis and work design, I can analyse jobs and develop job designs which will be demanded of me in the field of HR. Therefore, it will help me advance in my professional career. IMPORTANCE Both topics selected are important for my professional growth as I plan on becoming an HR professional. Leadership is a vital skill required to manage the human capital of an organisation. It will help me leverage others strength and utilize them to achieve a common goal. (2020). ) Job analysis and work design – In todays constantly changing business environment, jobs are to be designed in such a way that it fulfills the organisations objectives while providing job satisfaction to the employees. (P 128, Belcourt, M., Singh, P., Snell, S. A., & Morris, S. S. (2020).) To have a career in HR I need to gain in depth knowledge regarding all this so that I can be on top of these challenges. IMPACT ON CAREER Leadership had a positive impact on my career as it helped me progress in academic as well as professional career, due to leadership I have brought together effective and efficient teams and will continue to do so. IMPROVEMENT I would like to sharpen my leadership skill as well as align it to the needs of an HR professional. For job analysis and work design I want to have a better understanding of it and learn its application, so that when I become an HR professional, I can utilize my knowledge. GOAL – To become an HR professional. PLAN: SMART GOALS LEADERSHIP S - Specific I want to better manage the teams by improving leadership skill. For this I need to take leadership responsibilities when opportunity arises. By the end of this program, I should be able to complete teamwork more effectively and, in less time, than before. I can ask for tips on leadership by the professor and do research online for improvement. My motivation is to move forward towards my goal. Leadership is an essential part of HR role and to be better at my future job I need to have good leadership skill. By the end of my program, I should have improved leadership skill. M - Measurable A – Achievable R - Relevant T – Time-bound JOB ANALYSIS AND WORK DESIGN I want to be able to analyse jobs and create job design. To do this I need to take up a project which requires me to analyse and create a job summary. I should be comfortable with job analysis and job design. I should be able to create a job summary without any issues. I can research using my textbook and use LinkedIn learning to take up a relevant project. The motivation is achieving my goal to be HR professional. Job analysis and work design is one of the main functions performed by an HR, so it is imperative for me to have a thorough knowledge of it.
