Skeleton Outline Student’s Name: Diya Robin Use this outline to take notes based on the content covered in the Chapter 8 book and PowerPoint Lecture. Each resource in the module is designed to support your learning. Remember these notes as you engage with the module activities and assignments to help you focus on what is most important. 1. What is the title of this Chapter? (1pt) Assessments of Body Composition 2. In your own words, explain what you learned. Make sure you summarize the major points covered in the chapter (Mention a minimum of 4) (4pts) In this chapter, I learned about body composition. I learned about the different types of fat which I never knew there was different kinds. There are different types of methods for assessing body composition. I learned what skinfold analysis is and where it is commonly used. The different types of calculations that are used for different purposes such as volume of the body and body fat percentage. 3. In your own words, explain what the Archimedes’ principle is and how it relates to hydrostatic weighing (3 pts) According to Archimedes' principle, a body submerged in a fluid gets an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid the body has displaced. The Archimedes principle is used in hydrostatic weighing to determine an object's or person's density by comparing their weight in air to their weight in water. Because of its ability to accurately measure an individual's body fat percentage based on the difference in densities between fat and lean tissue, this technique is often used for body composition studies. 4. In the following table, summarize and explain how skinfold calipers, BIA, and hydrostatic weighing compare and contrast according to equipment cost, time required, technician expertise, day to day variation, and accuracy. Do not just state it as: low, moderate, high. Further specify (4 pts). Use the online lecture to help you answer this question Equipment Cost Time Required Technician Expertise Day to day variation Accuracy Skinfold calipers Low, these are affordable and available Quick, only takes about 1015 minutes Moderaterequires training and experience Moderateresults can vary Depends on technician skill BIA Moderate- vary in price but are affordable Quick, takes a few minutes to complete Low, doesn't require extensive training Moderate, results are influenced by different factors May not be accurate Hydrostatic weighing High, requires specialized equipment. Longer, time consuming High, requires skilled and careful technicians Low, provides stable results Highly accurate when performed correctly
