Disclaimer
Jyotish is divine vidya, which one may or may not agree with, so it
could be a debatable subject in different belief systems. However, the
rebirth of souls is a fundamental belief in Hinduism.
This is simply a tool to understand the purpose of your soul. The
method of astrology talks about past lives and accumulated karmas of
it, which get manifest in the present life. So Jyotish is based on Karma
and in the concept of Salvation.
A considerable portion of Vedic Jyotish is based on intuition and
research, and no one can claim 100% accuracy.
The author has mentioned his research, observation, and experience
however, readers are requested to analyze the chart from all possible
angles, so please do not reach any conclusion by reading one
statement; instead, use your inner guidance and intuition.

Lakshmi and Mahalakshmi
Which Planet gives Wealth?
Satvik – Sun, Moon and Jupiter
Rajasik – Mercury, Venus
Tamsik – Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu
Forms of Lakshmi and Mahalakshmi
If Lakshmi is associated with Lord Vishnu, then she is considered as
Lakshmi or Sridevi. In her idol, she is shown with two arms.
When she is alone with all her individual feminine glory, then she is
known as Mahalakshmi.
Mahalakshmi is at the feet of Vishnu. According to the scriptures,
Mahalakshmi never leaves Lord Vishnu’s side. Where Lord Vishnu
will be there, Goddess Lakshmi herself will come. According to the
Puranas, Lakshmi Puja is successful only when Lakshmi Narayan is
worshiped after Ganesh Vandana.
How Mahalakshmi and Lord Vishnu got married
As per legends, once a Swayamvar was organized for Lakshmi ji
wherein she accepted Lord Vishnu as her husband, Narad ji thought
that this princess would accept him in Hari Roop but she put a
garland around the neck of Lord Vishnu. That is where Narad cursed
Lord Vishnu to take birth on earth and get separated from his wife.
Incarnation of Mata Lakshmi
Mahalakshmi resides in Baikunth. Swarg Lakshmi resides in heaven.
Radha ji resides in Goloka. Dakshina resides in the Yagya. Griha
Lakshmi resides in the planet. Rukmani resides in Goloka. Sita ji
resides in Bhuloka.
Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, despite being the wife of Lord
Vishnu, is fickle (Chanchal). Lord Vishnu who is serious and patient,
whose form is eternal and everlasting, while his wife Lakshmi is
Chanchala, she is not permanent. She does not stay anywhere for
long.
Once Narad ji asked this question to his father Brahma ji that “Why
Lakshmi is fickle” then in reply Brahma ji said, “If Lakshmi becomes
permanent in someone’s place, then that person will do all kinds of
misdeeds on earth.” That is why after some time Lakshmi moves
away from him. That is why Lakshmi ji is called Chanchala.
In the matter of wealth and opulence, the creature forgets that it is
the fruit of the good deeds of his previous birth, which he has
received in the form of prosperity.
“Why is Lotus dear to Lakshmi?”
Lotus flower is the most favorite flowers to Lakshmi, the goddess of
good fortune and wealth. Lotus is considered to be a symbol of good
luck and Goddess Lakshmi sits on the lotus. Therefore, her relation to
the lotus seems inevitable. Lakshmi ji is believed to be born from the
lotus, hence she is also called Pankaja. It is a sattvik flower.
Even though it is born in mud, it is pure. Even while in water, not
even a drop of water remains on its leaves. A sign is taken from the
lotus that a person should not be immersed in the mud of the world,
but do such work which will keep him elevated like a lotus.
Four vehicles of Lakshmi are described in the scriptures – Garuda,
Owl, Elephant and Lotus. The owl is the vengeful vehicle of Lakshmi,
the Garuda is the sattvik, and elephant and the lotus are the royal
vehicles. That is why lotus is associated with opulence and Lakshmi is
the goddess of wealth and opulence, hence lotus is very dear to her as
a synonym for prosperity.
Churning of Ocean
Vishnu Purana has mentioned the churning of the ocean. According
to the story mentioned in it, once the heaven lost its wealth and
splendor due to the curse of Maharishi Durvasa.
Then all the Gods went to Lord Vishnu and he told the method of
churning and also told that nectar will come out from the churning of
the ocean, after which they will become immortal.
The ocean was churned with the help of Vasuki Naag and
Mandarachal mountain. The churning of the ocean yielded 14 gems
including Uchchaishrava horse, Airavat elephant, Lakshmi, Lord
Dhanvantari.
The work of churning the ocean was done to get the nectar, but it is
said that evil also came with good. Therefore, the amount of nectar
that had to be released, the same amount of immeasurable poison also
came out from the water of the sea.
Kalakoot Poison
First, the Kalakoot poison came out from the churning of the ocean, it
was so intense and poisonous that both the gods and the demons got
panicked. When they did not get any solution, everyone together
prayed to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva and his daughter Mansa devi
swallowed all the poison to save the universe. Since then Shiva got
another name as Neelkanth. This poison has been given the name of
Kalakoot (Halahal) which Lord Shiva swallowed.
This means that nectar (Parmatma) is situated in the mind of every
human being. If we have the desire for nectar, then first of all we have
to churn our mind. So when we churn our mind, all the bad thoughts
come out. These bad thoughts are poison. We should surrender these
bad thoughts to God and get rid of them.
Kamdhenu
After the poison came out, Kamdhenu emerged from it, which was a
cow. Kamdhenu is considered to be the best among the cows. Lord
Vishnu gave this Kamadhenu cow to the sages, because from its milk
objects of Yagna can be offered in the form of Ghee, Milk etc as these
all were all useful for Yagya and havan.
Uchchaishrava Horse
After this, a horse came out of it, whose name was Uchchaishrava. It
was a white horse that could fly in the sky. It was a wonderful horse
with seven faces which was received by Bali, the king of the Asuras.
After sometime, it was given to Devraj Indra. Uchhaishrava is said to
be the king of horses and the best among them.
In the Bhagavad Gita also, Shri Krishna has addressed himself as
Uchhaishrava among horses.
Airavat Elephant
In the churning of ocean, the Airavat elephant came out, it had four
big teeth. The Airavat elephant is a symbol of wisdom and its four
teeth represents greed, attachment, lust and anger.
It also had the ability to fly in the sky. It was taken by Devraj Indra as
his vehicle. After this, Devraj Indra fought and won many wars with
the help of Airavat elephant. Other names of Airavata elephant are
Indrahasti (Vehicle of Indra), Indrakunjar, Nagamalla (Elephant of
War), Abhramatanga (King of the Clouds), Arkasodar (Brother of the
Sun), Svetahasti, Gajragani etc. He is also considered the son of sage
Kashyap and Kadru.
Kaustubh Mani
Kaustubh Mani, which came out on the fifth order in the churning of
the ocean, was accepted by Lord Vishnu on his heart. Kaustubh Mani
is a symbol of devotion.
It was worn by Lord Vishnu himself. In the Dwapur era, when Lord
Krishna had freed Kaliya Nag from the bondage of Garuda, that
serpent again returned this gem to him. It is said that this gem has
gone into the depths of the ocean again.
Kalpavriksha
The Kalpavriksha, which came out in the sixth order in the churning
of the ocean, was established by the gods in heaven. It was a divine
medicinal tree which is also known as Kalpataru. This tree had the
power to cure many serious diseases. This tree was also received by
Devraj Indra, which he planted on the north side of the Himalayan
mountain at a place called Surkanan. The medicines of this tree were
later used for the welfare of mankind.
Kalpavriksha is a symbol of your wishes. The life management
formula associated with Kalpavriksha is that if you are trying to attain
nectar (God), then abandon all desires. If there are desires in the
mind, then attainment of God is not possible.
Rambha – Apsara
In the churning of the ocean, an Apsara named Rambha emerged, a
woman wearing beautiful clothes and divine ornaments appeared.
Apsara is the symbol of lust hidden in the mind which tries to distract
your mind. In that case, it is very important to have control over the
mind.
It was handed over to the gods and later she became the main dancer
in the Indra lok.
Ravana, the demon king, destroyed the satitva of Rambha then
Nalkuber cursed Ravana that if he tries to touch any woman in the
future, his head would be chopped off.
Goddess Lakshmi
One of the main objectives of Samudra Manthan by Lord Vishnu was
to retrieve Goddess Lakshmi. When he was busy in the management
of the universe, then Goddess Lakshmi was absorbed in the depths of
the ocean. When the churning of the ocean took place, Goddess
Lakshmi came out again. After coming out, she went to Lord Vishnu.
From the perspective of life management, Lakshmi is a symbol of
wealth, splendor, opulence and other worldly pleasures.
Varuni Devi
Varuni Devi, who came out in the ninth order from the churning of
the ocean, produced an immeasurable quantity of liquor, which was
named Varuni. Varuna means water. That is why it was named Varuni
because it came out of the water of the sea. It was given to the Asuras
on the orders of Lord Vishnu. That’s why we find that the Asuras
were always under the influence of alcohol/Varuni/liquor.
Moon (Chandra)
The moon came out in the tenth order in the churning of the ocean.
Lord Shiva took the moon on his head. Moon signifies coolness.
When your mind will be free from bad thoughts, greed, lust,
intoxication etc., at that time it will become as cool as the moon. Such
a mind is needed to attain God. Only a devotee with such a mind
receives nectar (Parmatma).
Paarijaat Tree
After this, the Parijat tree emerged from the churning of the ocean.
This also went to gods.
If seen from the point of view of life management, there is peace to be
found before you enjoy your success. When you reach close to the
divine energy, your fatigue itself goes away and there is a feeling of
peace in the mind.
Panchjanya conch
Panchjanya conch came out in the twelfth order from the churning of
the ocean. It was taken by Lord Vishnu. The conch shell is considered
a symbol of victory, as its sound is also considered very auspicious.
Sharang Dhanush
It was a miraculous bow that Lord Vishnu received. It is said that it
was made by Lord Vishwakarma himself.
Lord Dhanvantari and Amrit Kalash
At the end of the churning, Lord Dhanvantari came out with the
nectar in his hands. Lord Dhanvantari is a symbol of a healthy body
and a pure mind. In the churning of the ocean, nectar came out at
number 14. This 14 number means these are 5 Indriyaan, 5
Janendriyaan and other 4 are – mind, intellect, chit and ego. After
controlling all these, God is attained.
Shree Shukta
There is hardly any person in the world who does not wish for
happiness, prosperity and success by the grace of Lakshmi.
King, small and big all want Lakshmi to always reside in their home.
In Rigveda, it is said that all the desired wishes will be fulfilled by
reciting ‘Shri-Sukta’.
If someone recites Shri Sukta and chants mantras on the new moon
night on the day of Diwali, his wishes are fulfilled.
Sri Suktam also known as Sri Sukta is a devotional hymn dedicated to
Goddess Lakshmi which is narrated by great sages in the sacred
Hindu scripture – Rigveda.
In Hinduism, Goddess Lakshmi is considered the goddess of wealth,
prosperity, joy and splendor. The blessings of Mahalakshmi are
obtained by reciting Shri Sukta.
It is one of the best ways to worship Maa Lakshmi. Shri Sukta is
recited in front of Shri Yantra. Devotees who regulary chant Sri
Sukta, never face poverty. In this mantra, the sound (dhawani) body
of the presiding deity Lakshmi is created by reciting letters, syllables
and words in the fifteen verses of the Shri Sukta.
Goddess Lakshmi is also called ‘Shri’ in Sanskrit which means the
embodiment of all auspicious qualities. The recitation of Sri Sukta
invokes prosperity, health, wealth, joy and complete well-being.
Sri Sukta is the blooming hymn of Rigveda. It is available at the end of
the fifth mandala of the Rigveda. The number of mantras in the Sukta
is fifteen. In the sixteenth mantra there is a phal-shruti. Later eleven
mantras are available in the form of appendices. She is remembered
by the name of Lakshmisukta.
Ananda, Kardama, Srid and Chiklit are the four sages of the Srisukta.
All four are said to be the sons of Shri. Sriputra Hiranyagarbha is also
considered as the sage of Srisukta.
This hymn is used in the worship of Lakshmi, chanting, home etc.
Maharishi Bodhayan, Vashisht etc. have told its special uses. In the
Shree Sukta, instructions have been given to chant the mantras of this
Sukta and to do homa through these mantras.
Vaibhav Lakshmi
The story of Vaibhav Mata Lakshmi is related to Sheela and her
husband. Sheela and her husband lived honestly. They did not do any
evil to anyone and wer spending a good time in the Lord’s hymn.
The people of the city appreciated their happy married life and
Sheela’s household was running happily. But Sheela’s husband was
left to suffer the karma of the previous birth, as he made friends with
bad people. He started dreaming of becoming a ‘millionaire’ at the
earliest. So he went on the wrong path and become a beggar,
wandering here and there.
Alcohol and gambling were spread in the city. Sheela’s husband also
got trapped in it. He also got addicted to alcohol with his friends. In
the greed of becoming rich, he also started gambling with friends. The
money saved and the wife’s jewellery, everything was lost in
gambling.
Sheela was a gentle and courteous woman. She was deeply saddened
by the behavior of her husband. But trusting God, Sheela started
engrossed in devotion to God.
In this way, Sheela started spending time in devotion to the Lord,
enduring unbearable sorrow. Suddenly one afternoon someone
knocked at his door. She saw an old lady mother was standing in
front. There was a glow on her face and nectar in her eyes. Her
gorgeous face lit up with compassion and love. Seeing her, there was
immense peace in Sheela’s mind. By the way, Sheela did not recognize
this mother. Still, seeing her, Sheela was filled with joy. Sheela
hesitated and made her sit on the torn sheet. Mother asked: Sheela
you don’t recognize me?
Sheela hesitated and said mother! I am not able to recognize you but
very happy to see you. Mother said why did you forget me? Every
Friday there is Bhajan Kirtan in Lakshmiji’s temple, we meet every
Friday.
Sheela had become very sad since her husband going on the wrong
path and that is why she stopped going to the temple.
Then the mother said, ‘You used to sing such melodious hymns in the
temple of Lakshmi. You could not be seen now, have you got sick?
Thinking so, I have come to meet.
Sheela’s heart melted by the loving words of the mother. Tears welled
up in her eyes. She started crying bitterly in front of her mother.
Seeing this, the mother began to console Sheela by placing her loving
hand on her head and her sobbing back.
Mother said – Happiness and sorrow are like sun and its shade. After
sorrow, there also comes happiness.
Sheela’s mind got peace after listening to the mother. She said to
mother that they used to spend their time in devotion to God,
running the household peacefully. Suddenly our fate turned against
us. My husband got into a bad friendship. Because of this, he fell prey
to bad habits like gambling, race and we lost everything.
Upon hearing this, the mother said, Every human has to pay for
his/her actions. But don’t you worry and as you have suffered a lot.
Now your happy days will surely come. You are the devotee of
Mother Lakshmi.
Maa Lakshmi is the embodiment of love and compassion. She always
has affection for her devotees. That’s why you have to be patient and
keep fast for Maa Lakshmi.
Sheela’s face glowed after hearing about Maa Lakshmi. She asked

Mother said, daughter! Maa Lakshmi’s fast is very simple. It is called
Vaibhavlakshmi Vrat. All the wishes of those who observe this fast
are fulfilled. They attain happiness and wealth.
Sheela started doing the fasting of Mother Vaibhavlakshmi and She
gave prasad to her husband. There was a difference in the nature of
the husband as soon as he ate the prasad. He stopped harassing her.

Sheela observed Vaibhavlakshmi fast for 20 Fridays with full
devotion. On Friday, 21st, as per the instructions of the mother, after
performing the Udyapan method, seven women were gifted seven
books of Vaibhavlakshmi Vrat.
Then after worshiping the image of Mother’s Dhanalakshmi form, she
started praying in her heart. O Mother Dhanalakshmi! I had taken a
vow to observe your Vaibhavlakshmi fast, that fast has been fulfilled
today.
O mother! Take away all my troubles. Do us all good. Saying this she
saluted the image of Dhanalakshmi form of Lakshmi. In this way,
Sheela fasted with devotion according to the classical method and she
got the result. Her husband became a good man and worked hard and
started doing business. By the grace of Maa Vaibhav Lakshmi, there
was a flood of wealth in Sheela’s house. Seeing the effect of

observing Vaibhavlakshmi fast.

Mythological Story of MaaLakshmi
As per legends, Bhrigu, the Manas son of Brahma, was married to
Khyati, and they had the son as Shukracharya. According to the
Puranas, Bhrigu Rishi also has a daughter whose name is Lakshmi.
Goddess Lakshmi whom the world calls the goddess of opulence and
wealth. She was married to Lord Vishnu. Lakshmi Devi is the consort
of Lord Vishnu. Once such an incident happened due to which
Goddess Lakshmi had to curse her father Bhrigu.
Once a sage and Maharishi gathered at Naimisharanya. Everyone
started telling his or her own god to be great and best. After a long
dispute, Maharishi Bhrigu was entrusted with the task of testing the
superiority of the trinity.
First of all, Maharishi Bhrigu went to take the examination of
Mahadev, but the Shiva-Ganas did not allow him to meet Lord Shiva.
After that he went to meet his father Brahma, but Brahma did not
bow down to Bhrigu. He was not given due respect in Kailas and
Brahmaloka, so he now finally went to Vaikuntha where Lord Vishnu
was resting on Sheshnag and Mother Lakshmi was sitting on his feet.
Maharishi Bhrigu kicked Lord Vishnu in the chest in an anger. At that
time Lord Vishnu held the feet of Bhrigu Rishi in his hands and said
Maharishi, my chest is very hard, I hope there was no injury on your
feet. With this humility of Lord Vishnu, Bhrigu Rishi declared Lord
Vishnu as the supreme God in the trinity.
At that time Goddess Lakshmi was also at the same place. She could
not bear this humiliation of her husband. In anger, she cursed her
father Bhrigu that the Brahmin born in his lineage would always be
poor and would spend his life begging for alms.
Maharishi Bhrigu accepted this curse of Goddess Lakshmi and left
from there. At that time, Maharishi Bhrigu decided to write astrology
for the purpose of making his descendants not poor and could sustain
their life, and after some time Maharishi Bhrigu composed the great
astrological text Bhrigu Samhita. Thus Goddess Lakshmi cursed her
father Bhrigu and due to this incident, astrology came into existence.

in the Bhagwat Mahapuran of Hinduism. It is believed that where
Goddess Alakshmi resides, there are inauspicious events, sins,
laziness, poverty, misery and diseases, hence she is also considered as
the “goddess of misfortune”.

with 14 gems in the churning of the ocean. After leaving the sea,
Goddess Lakshmi chose Lord Vishnu while Mother Alakshmi took
refuge in demonic powers.
Why is she considered the elder sister of GoddessLakshmi?

reason, she said that she live in only those houses where there is filth,
discord, unrighteousness.
