As a first time player of table tennis, what type of grip do you think will be more efficient for you to use. Support your answer. Between the two basic grips that I have learned in table tennis, I prefer using a shakehand grip more than the penhold grip because I can use both backhand and forehand strokes equally in a shakehand grip. Since the index finger in a shakehand grip is placed downward on the lower part of the rubber, it enables me to have better control over the racket, which prevents the paddle from moving unexpectedly. A shallow shakehand grip helps my wrist to be flexible and because of its looseness, I can easily adjust the racket’s angle. I rarely use the other grip, which is the penhold grip. The backhand attack is much harder to execute in a penhold grip because I often bend my arms into various positions, which lessens my stamina, carrying out low-quality strokes and bad performances. Moreover, I like using a shakehand grip as a beginner because it is more convenient for me, it feels natural, and I am more comfortable using this kind of basic grip.
