And it would be revolutionary if they managed to bring back mammoths who have been extinct for 4000 years. d.i) Scientists would need the frozen remains of a mammoth, and they will morph the DNA with that of an Asian elephant. ii) Asian elephants and mammoths share similar DNA and they are closely related so they would be able to reproduce successfully. Asian elephants are also in danger of extinction so this scheme could safe the species. 1e) People disagree to the projects because they believe scientists should focus on saving the animals we have now from possible extinction, and also they believe it could all be for publicity, no genuine, and the benefits claimed may be false. f) There had only been a handful of mammoths found. The mammoths were even discovered by accident, yet they are perfect. The gentlemen who discovered her had zero intent of selling or disturbing the mammoth’s remains. Scientists were then able to successfully retrieve her and not cause any issues. She had been frozen for many years. After the discovery scientists now understand the species in greater depth, they figured out how she dies and they grasped an idea of what life during the ice age was like. They also managed to get a piece of her DNA for further research. Question 2 2a.i) Broken suddenly – shattered ii) Slowed herself down and made herself as tall as possible – she stood straight up, as a confident person might stand. iii) Spoke to her in a low angry voice – he had no energy to yell so he whispered irritably. iv) Fast asleep – in a deep sleep. b.i) Peered – look forward ii) Dying – dimming light iii) Enormous – gigantic c) Enormous shadow – Natalia is in shock at the size of the object, she failed to recognize the animal initially, anticipation begins to build up until she eventually finds out the shadow was an elephant. d) “But its shape was too organic” The writer wants to portray that the shape ahead of him too raw looking, it didn’t look pure. “Swaying” This illustrates the way in which the elephant was “jay-walking” the street. “The thing let in sucked in air and then let out a deep groan.” This tells us that the animal was breathing heavily as if it were distressed. “Bouldered head” Describes the stone like shape of the elephants head, even the size may figuratively be compared to a boulder. “It seemed to take up the whole street” This gives the impression that the elephant was enormous. “Dragged its curled trunk like a fist along the ground” Shows that the elephant may have been sulking or it has no energy to lift its trunk so it is not dragging on the ground.
