Water
o It is one of the most basic necceseties for life.
o The earth is referred to as the ‘blue planet’. This is due
to its water content.
o 71 % of the earth is covered in water.

As mentioned earlier, plants is also an
organism that needs water to live. The
water is present in the soil at root level.
o
Many plant roots have small microscopic
projections called root hairs on them.
There may be upto 500 root hairs in one
square centimeter of root surface.
o
The root hairs increase the surface area
of the root to absorb water.
o
The water is absorbed by the root hair
cells and drawn into the plant to replace
the water lost in transpiration.
